Recognize, don’t rationalize. #creativedirector #textiledesign #khaaliq
In my experience working in textile design and creative direction, I've learned that truly appreciating art requires a shift in mindset—from trying to rationalize its worth to simply recognizing its inherent value. Too often, people attempt to justify their choices with logical reasons, but the most meaningful connection comes from acknowledging the emotion and intention behind a piece. Collectors don’t just buy art on impulse; they recognize it and understand its deeper significance. Approaching art with intention allows you to build a collection that resonates personally and tells a story. For example, when designing textiles, paying attention to the story behind patterns and textures adds richness and depth that can’t be quantified by sales figures or trends. Moreover, success in creative fields depends on embracing authenticity. Rather than conforming to what’s popular, recognizing your unique vision and expressing it boldly leads to more meaningful work. This also applies to how you engage with art—whether as a creator, collector, or admirer. I've also noticed that periods with fewer visitors or lower sales don’t necessarily reflect a lack of value. Growth often happens quietly and steadily, much like how textile designs evolve through experimentation and repeated refinements before gaining recognition. Patience and intentionality are key. Therefore, whether you’re starting your art collection or developing creative projects, remember to appreciate the journey and focus on recognition over rationalization. This approach enriches your creative process and allows you to connect with art—and yourself—on a deeper level.
