A Week in Mexico 🇲🇽

This is what my camera roll looked like after spending a week in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico!

I went for a work retreat and got to do so many cool things with my coworkers.

I went to ancient Mayan ruins, snorkeled (not pictured), ate lots of good food, and had lots of laughs.

Mexico is such a vibrant and fun place to vacation to!

Lmk if you’ve ever been to Mexico or want to go!

Playa del Carmen
2024/2/13 Edited to

... Read moreWow, my week in Playa del Carmen was truly unforgettable! After getting back, I wanted to share even more tips for anyone dreaming of their own Mexico adventure. Beyond just the beautiful 'scenic views of a beach' and 'palm trees' I captured, there’s so much practical info I wish I’d known before. If you're planning your own 'week in Mexico', especially around the Yucatán Peninsula, getting to the iconic sites like Chichen Itza is probably high on your list. For 'how to get there' from Playa del Carmen, I highly recommend booking a guided tour. They usually include transportation, an expert guide who brings the history of the 'ancient Mayan pyramid of Chichen Itza' to life, and sometimes even a cenote swim! Aim to go early in the morning to beat the crowds and the heat. Don't forget water, sunscreen, and a hat. As for 'admission', it's typically included in tour packages, but if you go independently, be prepared for separate fees for the site and a local tax. It's a truly breathtaking 'historic site' that you absolutely can't miss. Another fantastic historical site to consider is the 'Tulum Ruins'. Unlike Chichen Itza, these Mayan ruins are perched right on a cliff overlooking the turquoise Caribbean ocean. It's a stunning backdrop for ancient architecture! You can often combine a visit to Tulum with a stop at a cenote or even the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. 'How to get there' for Tulum is much easier from Playa del Carmen; you can take a colectivo (shared van), a taxi, or a guided tour. Admission fees are reasonable, and it's worth spending time exploring the site and enjoying the incredible views. Speaking of Sian Ka'an, if you love nature, you absolutely have to 'plan your visit' to this UNESCO World Heritage site. It's a vast protected area south of Tulum, offering incredible biodiversity. You can take boat tours through mangroves, spot dolphins and manatees, and even float down ancient Mayan canals. It’s a completely different vibe from the bustling resorts and provides a tranquil escape. My time in Playa del Carmen itself was a mix of relaxation and adventure. I loved strolling along the 'sandy beach' and finding cozy spots with 'thatch-roofed structures' for a refreshing drink. The evenings were magical, with 'string lights' illuminating our 'dinner in a restaurant with a thatched roof', giving everything a truly 'festive outdoor setting'. There are so many 'vacation cities in Mexico', but Playa del Carmen really shines for its convenience to historical sites and its vibrant atmosphere. Now, if you're looking for a completely different kind of Mexican adventure, some of you might be wondering about 'Mexico City itinerary' or 'what to see in Mexico City'. While my trip was focused on the Caribbean coast, Mexico City is a world-class destination offering rich history, incredible food, and dazzling culture. If you have more than a week or are planning a separate trip, consider spending at least '2 days in Mexico City'. You could explore the historic Zocalo, visit the incredible Frida Kahlo Museum, or wander through the charming Coyoacán neighborhood. It's a bustling metropolis that offers a stark contrast to the relaxed 'Mexico Caribbean' vibes, but equally captivating. No matter where you go, Mexico is a place that truly captures your heart. From the ancient wonders to the vibrant beaches and delicious food, every moment is an experience. I hope these extra tips help you 'plan your visit' and make your next Mexican vacation as incredible as mine!

Isla Mujeres: AMAZING food, insane water. Lots to do/see. Only downside is how touristy this island is. Holbox: my favorite of these beach towns, had such a great downtown - people outside dancing, good drinks, etc. Perfect blue water, walkable (car less island). Sisal: a great day trip from Me
