WORK TRIPS 101 | How to be professional & fun
Ever wondered about how going on a work trip would be? Well I just got back from one with my team of 30 people in Mexico!
Let’s dive into what I learned and how you can have a successful work trip too.
First off, you’re there to bond not just work. Working needs to happen some but more bonding than working is the real goal.
Next, make sure to show off your stellar personality and how you’re an asset and a connector on the team. You bring stuff to the table personally too!
And make sure to have fun with your team! Don’t be too loose but also not to stiff. Find a balance to speak openly but not say the wrong thing. If you are in-tune with your company that should be easy!
Lmk if you have any specific questions about my recent trip!

My recent work trip to Mexico was such an eye-opener, and I wanted to share even more insights beyond the basics! Getting that balance right between professional responsibilities and genuinely connecting with your team is key. I've learned a few things that really made a difference, especially when you're in a new environment like a resort or a city with amazing sights like Chichen Itza. First off, preparation is everything. Before you even leave, do a little research on your destination. Knowing a few local phrases or interesting facts can be a great icebreaker. I also found it super helpful to understand the itinerary thoroughly. This way, you can strategically plan when to buckle down on work (yes, even if you’re by the pool with your laptop!) and when to fully immerse yourself in team activities. Remember, you do have to work some, so schedule those focused hours. When it comes to team bonding, think beyond just happy hour. We had some incredible moments socializing by the pool bar, but also during organized excursions. Being present during these times, putting your phone away, and genuinely engaging in conversations can really build stronger connections. I tried to make it a point to chat with at least one new person each day, asking about their role or even their favorite travel experiences. It’s about building rapport outside of your usual work dynamic. Don't be afraid to show your true self, within professional boundaries, of course! Whether it's making a funny face for a group selfie on the beach or sharing a personal anecdote during dinner at a tropical-themed restaurant, these moments make you memorable. I found that being inclusive and involved meant not just joining activities, but also actively inviting others to join in, especially if someone seemed a little shy. It's about creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. One thing I really focused on was utilizing downtime effectively. Instead of just retreating to my room, I'd often join colleagues for a quick walk, a coffee, or even just sitting together by the beach catching up. These informal moments are gold for building rapport. And when you’re out exploring, like we did, remember to be mindful of your company's image. You can have fun and make memories while still being responsible and polished. The goal is to come back not just with tasks completed, but with stronger team relationships and a refreshed perspective for future productivity. It truly transforms a 'work trip' into an unforgettable experience!
