... Read moreRed velvet cinnamon rolls are a delightful twist on the classic sweet roll, combining the rich flavor of cocoa and warm spices with a beautiful red hue that makes them perfect for festive occasions like Christmas baking and holiday treats. To make these rolls extra special, it’s important to use gel food coloring, which provides a vibrant and consistent color without altering the dough’s texture. When preparing the dough, gently froth the yeast with warm milk and sugar to activate it, then mix in the melted butter, eggs, and red velvet ingredients including cocoa powder and red food coloring. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and soft, adding just a bit of olive oil to your work surface and hands if it feels sticky. This technique helps maintain a fluffy texture rather than a dense one. Resting the dough for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size creates a light, airy rolling base that’s ideal for absorbing the rich cinnamon sugar filling. Spread the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon mixture thoroughly, making sure to cover every corner of the dough to ensure a sweet and spicy bite in every roll. After rolling up the dough, let the rolls rest again for about 30 minutes to achieve a tender crumb. Pouring heavy cream over the rolls prior to baking at 350°F adds moisture and helps form a tender crust. For best results, monitor the rolls during baking and tent them with foil if they brown too quickly; baking times can vary depending on your oven. Cool the rolls slightly before adding the cream cheese icing, which is whipped with butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough cream or milk to reach a spreadable consistency. This topping offers a luscious complement to the warm, spicy rolls. This recipe not only yields beautiful red velvet cinnamon rolls but also invites creativity—try adding chopped nuts or a hint of orange zest to the filling for extra flavor. Whether you're baking for holiday gatherings or simply craving a comforting treat, these rolls deliver festive vibes and unforgettable taste.
