... Read moreStarting a backyard garden can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially for new gardeners. Before tackling overgrowth, assess the condition of existing garden beds. If they are structurally sound and free from pests, you can incorporate them into your renovation. For heavy overgrowth, consider using a garden hoe or a weed wacker to clear out unwanted plants slowly. It's vital to identify which plants should stay and which should go, as some may be useful herbs or perennials. When planning your vegetable and fruit garden, research companion planting—some plants thrive when grown together and can help deter pests naturally. Additionally, amending your soil with compost can boost plant health and yield. Don't forget the importance of sunlight: ensure your garden receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Joining local gardening clubs or online communities can provide support and inspiration as you embark on this green journey. You could also consider visiting your local extension office for workshops and resources tailored for beginner gardeners. With patience and the right resources, you'll learn to create the fruitful garden of your dreams!
