Hidden Costs of Owning a Home 🏡
“Buy a house” they said. “Why keep paying rent when you can own?” What they don’t tell you, are all the unexpected things that can happen. 🥲
First year of living in my home, two major home appliances stopped working. During inspection, I was given a heads up from my inspector.
“Start saving up, you’ll need to replace these within a year or two”
I thought, no problem, I’ll start setting some money aside. ☺️
Unfortunately, I didn’t even get a month head start 😨. It was almost summer when I moved in, so I turned the AC on and knew something was wrong when the temperature on the thermostat didn’t change after 30 minutes 😩.
A few months later, the temperature was changing again. I figured, there’s no way that my heater also isn’t working, right? Wrong. 😑 That died too. 😭
How did I afford to fix them?
- Savings💰 ( whatever was left after my down payment)
- Home warranty 🏠( gifted to me by my wonderful realtor)
If anyone hasn’t told you yet, this is it. Unexpected expenses will happen. Make sure you’re prepared. Having home warranty my first year was a big help in saving money. Keep building your savings with every paycheck. Knowing that I had the means to get these appliances fixed was a big peace of mind ☺️.
