Movie night with Millerā¦
He was such a good boy. I have to make sure that he has plenty of activities to keep him occupied so mom and daddy can watch movies. #movie #night #mysaltymonkey
Movie nights at home are our absolute favorite way to unwind, but with my energetic little guy, Miller, it used to be a bit of a challenge! I quickly learned that for us to really enjoy our movie, Miller needed his own special kind of entertainment. Itās not just about keeping him quiet; itās about making sure he feels included and happy too, without demanding constant attention during the film. After all, a happy pet means a relaxed parent! So, what are my go-to strategies for a successful pet-friendly movie night? First off, interactive puzzle toys are a lifesaver! Before the movie even starts, Iāll load up a KONG or a snuffle mat with some of his favorite treats. It takes him a good chunk of time to figure out and enjoy, keeping his mind engaged and his little paws busy. This is usually my secret weapon for the first half of the movie, giving us a good window of uninterrupted viewing. Another fantastic idea is a special 'movie night' chew. I save his favorite, long-lasting chews specifically for these occasions. Itās a high-value treat that he only gets when weāre settling down for a film, making it extra exciting for him. This works wonders for the latter half of the movie when the puzzle toy might be empty. Just make sure itās a safe, appropriate chew for your pet that won't make a huge mess on your carpet! Creating a cozy designated spot for Miller is also key. He has his own soft blanket and bed right next to the couch, but not on the couch with us so he doesn't try to steal snacks! This way, he feels like part of the family gathering, but he knows where his 'station' is. Ensuring his spot is comfortable and a little secluded helps him feel secure and encourages him to relax. Sometimes, I'll even put on some calming pet music or a dog-friendly nature show on a separate device at a low volume for him before the movie starts, which helps him settle down and signals that itās relaxation time. And for a truly special touch, I sometimes prepare pet-friendly snacks! Think small bits of plain cooked chicken, carrot sticks, or a spoonful of plain yogurt. These aren't for during the movie, but as a little pre-movie treat or a reward for settling down nicely. It makes the whole experience feel like a special event for him too, and seeing his happy face before we dim the lights is the best. Just remember to check if certain human foods are safe for your specific type of pet! Itās all about preparation and understanding what makes your pet tick. Every pet is different, but finding that perfect balance of engagement and comfort makes our movie nights truly enjoyable for everyone ā Miller included! These easy 'movie night ideas' really turn a potential distraction into a peaceful, heartwarming family experience. It brings me so much joy to see him happily gnawing on his chew or snoozing in his bed while we enjoy our film, knowing he's just as content as we are.
