The day our lives changed!

Friday, May 22, 2026 started out a normal day where our family including my mom was planning on going camping for the memorial weekend, until the unexpected happened!

Event that day as my mom recalls: My mom was doing her normal daily routine she lives alone, working with her miniature horses trimming one of the young filly’s hooves when the horse moved and lightly bumped my mom who was squatting down so my mom lost her balance and fell into the wall hitting her right shoulder blade (not her head), she said she felt a sharp pain go from her shoulder blade straight up her neck into her head causing her to get a migraine (which my mom has chronic headaches all the time so she didn’t think nothing of it) she decided to stop working on the horse and go inside and take a pill for the migraine and lay down until it went away & that’s the last she remembered.

She was supposed to meet a friend that day but didn’t show up so that friend came to check on her & by the grace of God she somehow unlocked her door and her friend called me asking what she should do because my mom was not acting right and started to become unresponsive so I said call 911 and the Ambulance rushed her to our local ER where she stayed unresponsive, they took an MRI of her head and discovered a #bloodclot on her brain so they life flighted her to Iowa City Hospital……..keep following our journey

... Read moreExperiencing a sudden health crisis like a brain blood clot can be both shocking and overwhelming, especially when it occurs unexpectedly during a normal day. From personal experience, it’s crucial to recognize that seemingly minor injuries or unusual symptoms—like the sharp pain radiating from the shoulder blade up to the head and an intense migraine—should never be ignored, even if someone frequently has headaches. When my family faced a similar emergency, we quickly realized the significance of early intervention. The fact that my mom was living alone added urgency to the situation because it limited immediate help. Thankfully, her friend’s prompt check-up and her ability to unlock the door were pivotal moments. This highlights how important it is for those living independently, especially seniors, to have a trusted contact who can check in regularly. In cases where someone becomes unresponsive or exhibits behavior that seems 'off,' calling 911 without hesitation is critical. The swift actions by the local ER and the decision for life flight to a specialized hospital saved precious time in diagnosis and treatment. MRI scans were essential in identifying the blood clot, which then led to emergency surgery, including removing part of the skull to relieve pressure—an intense but necessary procedure. Recovery from such an event is a journey, involving ICU stays, constant monitoring, and family support. Our experience showed us the emotional rollercoaster involved but also the strength gained from caring communities and family members. My sister’s support from Colorado and my daughter’s care for her Nana at home demonstrate how family bonds become stronger through adversity. For anyone reading this, if you or someone you know has chronic headaches but starts experiencing different or worsening symptoms, seek medical advice promptly. Life can change in moments, but with quick response, expert care, and support, healing and hope remain possible. This story is a reminder to cherish every normal day and prepare for the unexpected with love and vigilance.
