The new Hulu documentary 🌀

So i finished the whole thing today and let me just say that im almost 25. This happened when i was 4, never heard anything about it. Wasn’t taught it in history or did it ever even come up. This doc was absolutely sickening, disgusting, it was awful. And who caused everything to be that way!?! Our own fuxking government. They made the disaster, then they killed people for it. They lied many times to not help anyone. No humanity what so ever!!! All the u.s does is break its people down over and over and expect us to do absolutely nothing. They try to brainwash us, manipulate us. And for some it actually works. Just like #gaza what is the u.s doing? Who is taking action? Nobody! Everything was an experiment and we just watch, become helpless, our protectors kill us. Idk how the u.s has stood so long. #documentaries #hurricanekatrina #hulu #letschat

... Read moreWatching that Hurricane Katrina documentary on Hulu was a real game-changer for me. It wasn't just about the storm itself, but the layers of human decisions and broader impacts that followed, especially how New Orleans struggled to rebuild. The series, like 'Race Against Time: Wake Up Call' from National Geographic, really pulls back the curtain on how vulnerable we can be and the complex aftermath. That image of the submerged New Orleans cityscape under dark, stormy clouds, and the text detailing the city's struggle to rebuild, really sticks with you. It made me realize how important it is to seek out these stories, not just for history lessons, but to understand our world today. If you're like me and this kind of eye-opening content resonates, Hulu actually has a surprisingly strong collection of natural disaster documentaries. Beyond Katrina, I've found some incredible productions that are equally powerful. For instance, there are docs that delve into the science behind massive earthquakes and tsunamis, showing the incredible forces of nature and the sheer scale of their impact. Others explore the devastating impacts of wildfires that sweep across California or Australia, highlighting both the immediate danger and the long-term environmental and community recovery efforts. It's fascinating how many of these films, often from Nat Geo, don't just show the destruction, but also feature the incredible resilience of communities and individuals who faced unimaginable challenges. I've also seen amazing ones about devastating tornadoes in the Midwest, showcasing both the incredible power of nature and the quick response of local heroes. What I appreciate most about these documentaries is how they bring a human face to statistics. You see the personal stories of survival, loss, and the painstaking process of rebuilding lives and entire cities, much like New Orleans had to do. They often shed light on systemic issues, whether it's infrastructure, warning systems, or even social inequities that become glaringly obvious during a crisis. It's not always easy viewing – some scenes can be truly heartbreaking – but it's incredibly vital. They make you think about preparedness, community support, and the role of leadership when disaster strikes. Learning about these events helps us understand the importance of community and how crucial it is to hold institutions accountable. So, if you're looking for your next impactful watch after the Katrina doc, definitely explore Hulu's 'National Geographic' section. You'll find stories covering everything from volcanic eruptions to extreme weather events. It's a great way to stay informed and, frankly, to gain a deeper empathy for what people go through around the globe. These documentaries aren't just entertainment; they're vital lessons in history, science, and humanity. Let's keep discussing these important topics and sharing what we learn, because understanding these events is a huge step towards making sure history doesn't repeat some of its more tragic chapters and that we're better prepared for the future.

I lived through Hurricane Katrina. I am from New Orleans. Though I was not there when the storm hit, many of my family members and friends were. Like most of those in the documentary, they couldn’t leave because of financial difficulties. My best friend’s mom had just had surgery two days before the storm made landfall and was still hospitalized! My uncle worked for a hospital and he was an essential worker so he was not allowed to leave. I watched my house float away on the television. My uncle said that yes there was looting, but it was people getting food water clothes that was dry formula for the babies and diapers. They were getting necessities and then being punished for doing so.

Wait, they’re not teaching y’all about Hurricane Katrina? That was one of the biggest natural disasters in our nations history! That boggles my mind. I was 18 when that happened. We watched it live in our dorms. Absolutely devastating the horror stories. Worse was that both the news and government focused on looting/“rioting” going on instead of the actual atrocities. Had this happened in a primarily white community, things would’ve been much different. It infuriates me to this day.

I went on a documentary binge!
I have been on a documentary kick lately! Especially the ones about Cults. I have watched a lot of them in the past few days. Some are hard to watch though. IN MY OPINION a lot of them seemed to have the same motive. Sex, money, and control. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it all.
