To build in house furniture. What wood materials do you use??
Wooden materials popular in build-in (Built-in)
1.Real wood (Solid Wood)
Natural wood such as teak, oak, red wood, ash wood and so on.
✔️ strong, durable, with natural patterns and touch skin, beautiful, with a sense of luxury, and can be repaired.
❌ highest price, rare and subject to stretching, shrinkage, warping with weather conditions (but it also depends on wood conditioning before use), and may be vulnerable to termites.

2. Lumber or Synthetic Wood (Engineered Wood / Composite Wood)
It is a material made using wood parts or wood fibers to be interlined with glue and heat, which is very popular in today's builtins because it has a more accessible price than real wood and has various properties that solve a variety of applications.
2.1) Plywood is made of thin wood, glued and stacked in layers in alternating directions.
✔️ strong, durable, not easy to twist, moisture resistant better than some synthetic woods.
❌. The price is higher than other kinds of synthetic wood.
2.2) MDF Wood (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is made of wood fiber (finer than sawdust), mixed with glue and extruded into sheets.
The skin ✔️ is smooth, uniform, can be well applied to paint, spray paint, or grooving, with a higher density than that of Patigle wood.
❌ do not tolerate moisture. When hit by water, it swells and weighs heavily.
2.3) High Moisture Resistance Board or Moisture-proof MDF wood is developed from MDF wood by adding a moist (often green).
✔️ have MDF-like properties, but better moisture resistance. Suitable for areas with not very high humidity, such as cabinets in dry kitchens.
❌ The price is higher than typical MDF.
2.4) Particle Board is made of small pieces of sawdust / wood, mixed with glue and pressed into sheets.
The cheapest ✔️ is lightweight.
❌ the lowest density, not resistant to water / moisture. When hit by water, it swells easily. Not as strong as other wood.

3. Wood Substituting Material
3.1) Plaswood (Plaswood) made of hard type PVC sheet (PVC Foam Sheet)
✔️, waterproof, 100% termite-proof, weather-resistant, lightweight, suitable for high-water or humidity tasks such as kitchen sets.
❌ High price. Screw grip may not be as tight as real wood or plywood.
3.2) Viva Board or Cement Board is made of fine hewn wood mixed with cement.
✔️ is resistant to termites, fireproof, good moisture resistance, strong, suitable for structures or areas that require special durability.
❌ is heavy. The skin is not as smooth as other synthetic wood.
The selection depends on the budget and the area of use (such as dry areas or areas at risk of high humidity), as well as covering the skin with materials such as laminate, veneer, or spray paint for aesthetics and added durability.
นอกจากการเลือกประเภทไม้ที่เหมาะสมแล้ว สิ่งที่สำคัญไม่แพ้กันคืองบประมาณและพื้นที่ใช้งานของบิวท์อินในบ้านผมเองผมเคยเลือกใช้ไม้อัด (Plywood) สำหรับตู้เก็บของในห้องนั่งเล่น เพราะต้องการความแข็งแรงและลวดลายไม้ธรรมชาติที่ดูหรูหราหน่อย แม้ราคาสูงกว่าชนิดอื่น ๆ แต่ทนทานและไม่บิดงอง่ายเหมาะกับการใช้งานระยะยาว ส่วนในส่วนของห้องครัวซึ่งมีความชื้นสูง ผมเลือกใช้ไม้ HMR ที่มีการเพิ่มสารกันชื้น ซึ่งทำให้ตู้ครัวดูแลได้ง่ายกว่าไม้ MDF ปกติที่เคยใช้มาก่อนและไม่ต้องกังวลกับการบวมจากน้ำ จึงทำให้ห้องครัวของบ้านดูดี ทนทานเหมาะกับการใช้งานจริง อีกหนึ่งวัสดุที่ผมแนะนำสำหรับงานที่ต้องเจอสภาพแวดล้อมเปียกชื้นหรือกลางแจ้งคือ พลาสวูด (Plaswood) ที่เป็นวัสดุทดแทนไม้จาก PVC Foam Sheet โดยเฉพาะบ้านที่ต้องการความทนทานต่อน้ำและปลวก พลาสวูดมักจะเก็บรายละเอียดและสีสันได้ดี แถมไม่ต้องกังวลเรื่องปลวกมากนัก แต่ต้องระวังเรื่องการยึดเกาะของสกรูซึ่งอาจไม่แน่นเท่าไม้จริง สุดท้าย ผมอยากเน้นย้ำถึงความสำคัญของการเลือกวัสดุปิดผิวอย่างลามิเนต วีเนียร์ หรือการพ่นสี เพื่อเพิ่มความสวยงามและป้องกันความเสียหายได้อีกขั้นหนึ่ง ไม่ใช่แค่เลือกไม้ดีแต่ยังต้องดูแลเรื่องการเคลือบผิวให้เหมาะสมด้วย การเลือกวัสดุบิวท์อินควรผสมผสานความรู้เรื่องวัสดุกับการใช้งานจริงในพื้นที่ของแต่ละบ้าน เพราะแต่ละประเภทไม้มีข้อดีข้อเสียและลักษณะเหมาะกับงานที่แตกต่างกันไปครับ
