🟠 wood (Padauk)
The wood texture is reddish-orange to dark red.
Conspicuously beautiful pattern. Strong.
And very durable.
✔️ great weight and impact.
✔️ termites and insects rarely disturb.
✔️ good moisture resistance.
❌ high price.
The wood ❌ is very hard and sticky, making it difficult to shape.
❌ may experience some contractions or twists according to the weather if not dried well.
🟠 wood (Tabak)
The wood texture is yellowish-gray or light brown.
The pattern is quite straight and beautiful.
Popularly used to make children sleeping stairs
✔️ tough and flexible wood.
✔️ easy to polish and shade.
✔️ more economical than flutter and teak.
❌ not as durable as red or flatter wood. If exposed to prolonged moisture accumulation, mold or decay may occur more easily.
🟠 red wood (Daeng)
Dark reddish brown, firm in texture.
Fine wood pattern
✔️ strong, durable and high pressure.
Fits heavy use points
❌ wood is highly hardened.
Shaping or drilling is quite difficult.
❌ often have the problem of stretching, shrinking.
By temperature, humidity.
This makes it vulnerable to buckling if installed incorrectly.
🟠 teak (Teak)
Brown brass
With consistent straight lines
The wood meat is self-oily from natural oils.

การเลือกไม้สำหรับทำบันไดนั้นมีรายละเอียดที่ต้องพิจารณาหลายประการ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความแข็งแรง ทนทานต่อสภาพอากาศ และความสวยงาม นอกจากไม้ที่กล่าวถึงในบทความอย่างไม้ประดู่ ไม้ตะแบก ไม้แดง ไม้สัก และไม้เต็งแล้ว ยังมีปัจจัยอื่นที่ผมอยากแชร์จากประสบการณ์จริง ผมเคยลองใช้ไม้สักสำหรับบันไดภายในบ้าน เนื่องจากต้องการความหรูหราและดูแลรักษาง่ายจริงตามที่แนะนำ ไม้ชนิดนี้มีน้ำมันธรรมชาติทำให้ไม่ค่อยโดนปลวกกัด และไม่เกิดการหดตัวหรือบิดงอเมื่อเจอความชื้นสูงในภาคใต้ของไทย แต่ในการใช้งานจริง ผมพบว่าไม้สักอาจมีความนิ่มกว่าไม้ประดู่หรือไม้แดง จึงต้องระวังเรื่องรอยขีดข่วนเป็นพิเศษ โดยเฉพาะถ้าบ้านมีเด็กหรือสัตว์เลี้ยง ถ้าต้องการความคงทนสูงขึ้น อาจเลือกใช้ไม้ประดู่ซึ่งแข็งแรงและรับน้ำหนักได้ดี แต่ก็ต้องแลกกับราคาที่สูงขึ้นและความยากในการขึ้นรูปไม้ สำหรับไม้ตะแบกที่ราคาประหยัดกว่า เหมาะกับการทำลูกนอนบันได หรือส่วนที่รับน้ำหนักไม่มาก และควรหลีกเลี่ยงการใช้งานในบริเวณที่มีความชื้นสูงมาก เพราะเสี่ยงกับเชื้อราและการผุพังได้ง่าย นอกจากนี้ การเตรียมไม้ก่อนนำมาทำบันได เช่น การอบแห้งไม้ให้ถูกต้อง ก็เป็นปัจจัยสำคัญเพื่อป้องกันการหดตัวหรือบิดงอหลังจากติดตั้ง เพราะแม้ไม้ที่ทนทานอย่างไม้ประดู่หรือไม้แดงก็ยังเสี่ยงปัญหานี้ถ้าไม่ได้เตรียมไม้ดีพอ สุดท้ายการเลือกไม้ทำบันไดควรพิจารณาร่วมกับสไตล์การตกแต่งบ้านและงบประมาณด้วย เพื่อให้ได้บันไดไม้ที่ไม่แค่แข็งแรงทนทาน แต่ยังสวยงามและเหมาะสมกับการใช้งานในระยะยาวจริงๆ
