When I first saw the game featured in the show, I knew I had to bring it to life, and 3D printing felt like the perfect way to do it. It’s not just a prop; it’s a piece of KDrama history you can hold in your hand! For those who might not know, Gong-Gi is a traditional Korean children's game, a lot like jacks. Traditionally, you might play with small pebbles or specialized plastic pieces. But with Squid Game, the game got a whole new level of cool, especially with those iconic symbols – the circle, triangle, and square – appearing on the pieces. It inspired me to think, 'How can I make these myself?' If you're like me and were wondering how to make Gong-Gi pieces, especially the Squid Game version, 3D printing is a fantastic route. First off, you'll need a 3D printer, of course, and some filament. I usually go with PLA for these types of projects because it's easy to print and comes in so many vibrant colors, allowing for truly *colorful 3D printed Gong-Gi pieces*. Finding the right STL files is key. You can often find fan-made designs online by searching for 'Squid Game Gong-Gi STL' on sites like Thingiverse or Cults3D. Sometimes, I even enjoy tweaking existing designs or trying to create my own to get those perfectly distinct Squid Game symbols (circle, triangle, square) on each piece. When it comes to printing, I usually opt for a moderate infill (around 20-30%) to give the pieces a nice weight without wasting too much material. Depending on the design, you might need a few supports, especially for the embossed symbols, but generally, these are fairly straightforward prints. After printing, a little bit of sanding can smooth out any rough edges, and if you want to get really creative, you can even paint them for extra detail, although a good colored filament often does the trick. I found that making a custom black case to store them in not only keeps them safe but also adds to the overall aesthetic, especially with the symbols engraved on the lid, just like the ones you see in my pictures where the pieces are neatly arranged inside. It's such a satisfying feeling to see the finished five colorful 3D printed Gong-Gi pieces arranged and ready to play! Once you have your pieces, playing Gong-Gi is super fun! The basic idea involves tossing one piece up, picking up others from the ground, and catching the first piece before it falls. There are different levels and techniques, making it surprisingly addictive. It's great to see a hand hold these unique pieces, especially when you've put in the effort to create them yourself. This whole process from design to print to playing has been incredibly rewarding. It's amazing how a simple game from a show can spark so much creativity. I'd love to hear if any of you have tried 3D printing your own game props or have ideas for other KDrama-inspired projects! Let's chat below!
