So for my birthday, I took a trip to the beach for a day and apart of the itinerary was brunch at Johnny D’s.
The food was so good that we were already talking about coming back before we even left. 😂
Safe to say Johnny D’s has officially earned a spot on #TheKList 👸🏼🎀
My order:
🍳: Scrambled eggs and homemade grits with cheese (decent)
🥓: Cripsy bacon (😻), patty sausage, toast and
🧇: A red velvet waffle which was BY FAR, the STAR of the show! 😩😻❣️ When I tell y’all this waffle was so good! I lowkey wanted to lick the plate and ask for 2 more to go! 😭😂
*My Godsister got a breakfast plate as well and my friend got these chicken tacos and fried green tomatoes and they were delicious!
💰: The food is priced pretty fairly, I’d say maybe a step or two above iHop — definitely affordable. This wasn’t the first place I wanted to go to, but there were some discrepancies with the other restaurant I was looking at (😬 lol) so I’m glad I stumbled upon this place because it was definitely worth it!
✨: The atmosphere is very inviting and family friendly too • they even have a cute little greenery wall upon the entrance with a cute neon sign to take a picture by.

The highlight was undoubtedly the red velvet waffle—its rich flavor and perfect texture made it stand out as the star dish. Paired with scrumptious scrambled eggs and cheesy homemade grits, it was a filling and satisfying meal. The crispy bacon added a great contrast in texture and flavor, making each bite memorable.
What really impressed me was the friendly and homey atmosphere. The greenery wall with a neon sign right at the entrance creates a perfect photo opportunity and sets a cheerful mood. It feels welcoming for families and friends alike, making it not just about the food but the enjoyable overall experience.
Price-wise, the dishes felt fairly priced, a notch above typical chain breakfast places like IHOP, which I appreciated. Considering the quality and taste, I found it to be great value. Plus, the variety offered, such as chicken tacos and fried green tomatoes (which my friends ordered), showed that the menu has unique options beyond the usual brunch staples.
For anyone visiting North Myrtle Beach, Johnny D’s is a must-try brunch spot, especially if you're into waffles with creative twists like red velvet. It’s perfect for birthdays or any special occasion where good food and a cozy vibe are key. I keep thinking about their red velvet waffle and can’t wait to go back for another round!
