visit Hermann!

just not in October 😅

Nestled in the heart of Missouri wine country along the Missouri River, Hermann is a charming small town known for its rich German heritage, historic architecture, and scenic landscapes. Founded in the 1830s by German immigrants, the town proudly celebrates its roots with festivals like Maifest and Oktoberfest. Visitors are drawn to its quaint downtown, award-winning wineries, and cozy bed-and-breakfasts, making it a popular destination for weekend getaways and cultural experiences

... Read moreOh, Hermann, Missouri! If you're looking for a charming escape that feels a world away, trust me, this little German gem is it. I recently spent a weekend there, and it truly stole my heart – though I definitely learned a thing or two about when to visit! 😉 You absolutely can't go to Hermann without exploring its incredible wine scene. Stone Hill Winery, which I saw featured in one of the beautiful fall photos, is a definite must-visit. Their tours are fascinating, diving deep into the history of winemaking in Missouri, and of course, the tastings are delightful. I also loved Hermannhof Vineyards for its cozy cellar feel and delicious varietals. It's not just about the wine; it's about the entire experience – beautiful views, often live music, and just soaking in the relaxed atmosphere of the vineyards. Beyond the vineyards, the quaint downtown area is perfect for a leisurely stroll. I spotted so many unique boutiques and antique shops, each with its own character. The OCR mentioned Topiary's, and that's exactly the kind of charming place you'll find – perfect for picking up a special souvenir, a handcrafted gift, or something unique for your home. And if you're into wellness with a twist, keep an eye out for wine yoga events! How cool is that? It’s such a fun and unexpected way to relax and unwind amidst the beautiful scenery, combining a bit of zen with local flavor. Hermann's German heritage isn't just a theme; it's authentically woven into every cobblestone street and historic brick building. Take some time to just wander and admire the architecture. I loved popping into the Deutschheim State Historic Site to learn more about the early settlers and how they shaped this unique town. It really gives you a deeper sense of Hermann’s roots and cultural significance. For my fellow nature lovers, the Missouri River setting is just gorgeous. If you're up for it, part of the famous Katy Trail runs nearby, making it perfect for a scenic bike ride or a long, refreshing walk. Even just overlooking the river with a glass of local wine is a perfect afternoon activity, especially during a fall-themed visit before the peak crowds arrive. The crisp air and changing leaves create such a picturesque backdrop. Now, about that 'not in October' advice... while Oktoberfest is famous, it can get incredibly busy, which some people love, but others (like me!) prefer a more relaxed vibe. I found that late spring (around Maifest) or early fall (late September) offers beautiful weather, vibrant events, and still lets you enjoy all the charm without quite as many crowds. It’s the perfect time to experience Hermann’s beauty, from the blossoming flowers to the early autumn colors, without feeling overwhelmed. Don't forget to indulge in some delicious German-inspired food – the local bakeries are divine, and you'll find plenty of hearty comfort food. And staying in one of the charming bed-and-breakfasts truly completes the Hermann experience. It feels like stepping back in time, in the best possible way. Definitely add Hermann, MO, to your travel list for an unforgettable getaway!
