... Read moreWhen I was deep in the trenches of breastfeeding, I felt like I was constantly searching for effective (and delicious!) ways to keep my milk supply up. It's a real journey, requiring so much from our bodies, and sometimes you just need a little extra help. That's how I stumbled upon making my own lactation lemonade, and honestly, it became one of my absolute favorite go-to drinks. The real magic behind this simple recipe largely comes from the Mother's Milk Tea. I personally relied on a brand like Traditional Medicinals Organic Mother's Milk tea because I trusted their quality. This isn't just any tea; it's an herbal supplement specifically formulated to help new moms like us. It contains powerful galactagogues – substances that promote the flow of breast milk – such as fennel and fenugreek. I remember reading up on these, and both herbs have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to support healthy lactation. Knowing it was USDA Organic also gave me extra peace of mind about what I was putting into my body, especially while nursing my little one. Beyond the amazing herbs, the fresh lemon itself plays a crucial role. Lemon is packed with Vitamin C, which is fantastic for overall immunity, and its natural tartness makes the drink incredibly refreshing. For breastfeeding moms, staying well-hydrated is absolutely non-negotiable. Our bodies are working overtime to produce milk, and water is a huge component of that. This lactation lemonade helps me hit my daily fluid goals without feeling like a chore – it’s genuinely something I look forward to drinking. Incorporating it into my daily routine was surprisingly easy. I'd brew a big batch of the Mother's Milk Tea in the morning, let it cool down, and then mix in the fresh squeezed lemon juice and my preferred sweetener. I found that adding a touch of honey worked wonders, especially if I stirred it in while the tea was still warm so it dissolved perfectly. Keeping a pitcher in the fridge meant I always had a cold, delicious, and naturally milk-boosting drink ready to go. Sometimes, I'd even experiment by adding a few slices of fresh ginger or a sprig of mint for an extra layer of flavor and freshness! While this lactation lemonade was a fantastic discovery for me, it's worth remembering that it's just one piece of the puzzle. Frequent nursing or pumping is truly the most effective way to signal to your body to produce more milk. Also, ensuring you're getting enough rest (easier said than done, I know!) and maintaining a nutritious diet makes a huge difference. I also explored other lactation-friendly foods like oats, flaxseed, and even specific lactation cookies. But honestly, having a refreshing and easy-to-make drink like this made the whole breastfeeding journey feel a little bit easier and more enjoyable. It’s a small act of self-care that truly reaped big rewards for both me and my baby.

I have been making this for years, as this is my third baby. For the first time ever, I just added some Torani blackberry flavoring to my jug of lactation lemonade, and it is amazing! My third is now over a year old, so I don’t exactly need this all the time to help boost milk production, however I do need it when my monthly cycle arrives. Let me know what you think!
