First drawing of 2025!

Hey everyone! So thrilled to share my first drawing of 2025 – a super vibrant Spongebob Squarepants! I know many of you are like me and love to 'warnai' (color) your favorite characters, so I wanted to share a bit about my process and some thoughts on making your art pop. When I started this piece, I really focused on bringing Spongebob to life with a full-body drawing. It's not just about getting the outline right, but truly coloring him in a way that feels authentic and joyful. For Spongebob, that iconic yellow is a must! I spent some time picking just the right shade to make him look cheerful and bright. One of the things I always enjoy is paying attention to the smaller details that make a character recognizable. See his large blue eyes? Choosing a vivid blue really makes them stand out. And those signature two front teeth – they really complete his goofy grin! A touch of pink for his rosy cheeks makes him look so friendly! It’s these little elements that add so much personality to your drawings. Then there’s his outfit. I made sure to get the blue shorts with the striped waistband just right. It's funny how even simple clothing can make a character so distinct. And don't forget the white socks with stripes and his black shoes – they complete the look! I find that using contrasting colors, like the white socks against the blue shorts, really helps certain features pop. For anyone out there looking for tips on how to 'warnai' their own drawings, here’s what I’ve learned: Don't be afraid of bold colors: Especially for cartoons, bright, saturated colors can really enhance the fun factor. Layer your colors: If you're using pencils or markers, layering different shades can add depth and make your colors richer. Pay attention to light sources: Even if it’s a simple drawing, thinking about where the light is coming from can help you add subtle shading that makes your character look more three-dimensional. Practice contrasting elements: Think about Spongebob’s blue eyes on yellow skin, or his black shoes. These contrasts make details stand out. Enjoy the process! The most important part of drawing and coloring is having fun with it. Don't worry too much about perfection, just express yourself. This drawing was set against a simple white background to really make Spongebob himself the star. Sometimes, a clean background helps the colorful, vibrant elements of your character shine even brighter.
