Am I the asshole??

Am I being mean??

I feel really guilty and I can’t stand it because I can’t really let things go that easily, so I wanted to go see the new inside out movie today but someone I care about asked to go to an event that they really wanted to go to. I said no because I really wanted to see this movie as well!

but then she felt that I wasn’t treating her right and she also said “I feel let down and that she (me) doesn’t care about me and if this is how she treats the people she loves. And it shows treat people the way you want to be treated” but I feel a heavy guilt and I did end up going to see the movie. It was good and I loved it but I feel bad that I enjoyed my day and she didn’t… am I being mean; should I have went??

... Read moreExperiencing guilt in friendships is common, especially when our choices affect others' feelings. In today's fast-paced life, it can be challenging to balance personal desires with the needs of friends and family. When faced with a choice, like an exciting movie versus a friend's desire to connect at an event, it’s important to reflect on the dynamics of your relationship. Consider how prioritizing your happiness impacts your friendship. Sometimes, it’s okay to enjoy your own interests, but open communication is key. If a friend expresses feeling let down, try discussing your feelings openly. Approach the situation with empathy; reassure them that when you say no, it’s not a reflection of how much you care. Additionally, think about ways to bridge the gap – perhaps plan another day for the event or suggest going to the movie together next time. Remember, healthy friendships thrive on mutual understanding and forgiveness. You’re not an asshole for wanting to enjoy your day; rather, you’re human. Striking a balance is essential in friendships, and practicing self-care doesn’t negate your compassion for others. Reflect on your values and how you communicate them. With time, these experiences can shape a stronger bond with your friends, supported by clear communication and a willingness to understand differing perspectives.

No at least you’re not like other people who does stuff they don’t actually want to do to please others. You know what you want. Sounds like she didn’t respect your decision and wanted to make you feel bad and guilty abt doing what you want.
