Working a 12-hour shift from 10am to 10pm can be incredibly exhausting, especially for a young adult just starting out in the workforce. Managing such long hours often means battling fatigue, as getting enough restful sleep becomes a challenge. I can relate deeply to the feeling of being super tired after a sleepless night and still having to push through the day. One way to cope with the tiredness is to eat certain comfort foods, which sometimes leads to binge eating. For instance, consuming around 4000 calories in snacks, including half a cake in one hour, might seem excessive but can be a temporary emotional outlet during stressful workdays. It’s important to recognize that while snacking can provide quick energy and emotional relief, balancing nutrition and getting adequate rest are crucial for maintaining both physical health and mental wellness. Sharing meals with colleagues, like grabbing breakfast together, also offers a social boost that can help improve mood and foster a sense of belonging. To anyone in a similar situation, I would suggest prioritizing breaks when possible, drinking enough water, and trying to get a good night’s sleep, even if it means catching up on rest on off days. Remember, young student-workers juggling work and school deserve patience and self-care as they navigate these demanding routines.
