My ICKS as a first time mom 😵‍💫

1. Oh he's a flirt

Ehhhhhh no my 4 month's old son is not flirting with you girl, he is just being a baby. I can't stand when people say this, it gives me the biggest ickkkk like what do you mean he's a flirt 😭

2. "They're really cute at that age but just wait until he's a toddler he will drive you insane"

GOSH. These are the same people who used to tell us to enjoy "not having kids because you are free and you can do whatever you want", they are now telling us to enjoy "this infant stage because when they are toddlers it's different". Once baby is a toddler, they will probably tell me to enjoy the toddler stage because something else is coming (wait until he's a teenager!!!)

It's like you can NEVER just be happy in the stage you are, you always have to be fearing what's coming next!

3. People calling my son their "baby"

This one really bugs me and I don't have an explanation why. Per example, my MIL always say "oh my baby" while holding and cuddling my son. I mean it's cute but it's actually my baby lmao your baby is my husband 🤣

What are your icks??? Share them in the comment!

... Read moreOh, the joys and bewildering frustrations of being a first-time mom! Reading about your 'icks' really hit home. It's like we all sign up for a secret club where everyone has an opinion on your baby and your parenting style, and sometimes, those opinions become our biggest pet peeves. That 'just wait until he's a toddler' line? Ugh, it's a classic! It feels like people are constantly trying to steal the joy from the present moment. Why can't we just bask in the adorable newborn stage without being told doom is around the corner? I've learned to smile, nod, and then do whatever feels right for my family. Sometimes, I even just say, 'Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!' while my little one is peacefully sleeping on my adult's lap, cherishing these fleeting moments. The truth is, every stage has its challenges and its magic, and we deserve to embrace each one fully without fear of the next. When my baby leaves a tiny handprint on my arm, it's a reminder to soak it all in. And the 'my baby' comments... that one makes me inwardly cringe too! It's sweet that they love your little one, but you carried them, you birthed them, they are YOUR baby! I sometimes try to reframe it as them expressing deep affection, but honestly, it's still an 'ick' for me. It's like, let me enjoy my moment with my baby, you know? It’s a subtle boundary that often gets crossed. Another huge 'ick' for many new moms, myself included, has been the constant comparison. Is my baby sleeping enough? Eating enough? Hitting milestones fast enough? Every time I scroll social media, it feels like there's another 'perfect' mom doing everything flawlessly. It's so easy to fall into that trap and start questioning yourself, thinking you're doing something wrong if your baby isn't following the exact 'schedule' or 'developmental timeline' others boast about. But every baby is different, and so is every mom's journey. Your unique path is valid, and your baby is growing just fine. And let's not forget the feeling of losing a bit of yourself. Suddenly your identity is 'mom,' and the things you used to love doing seem impossible. Finding time for a shower, let alone a hobby, feels like a monumental task. It's an 'ick' when you realize you haven't had a full conversation about anything other than baby feed schedules or diaper blowouts in days! It's important to remember that you still exist beyond motherhood, and finding small ways to reconnect with your former self is crucial for your well-being. So, how do we navigate these 'icks' and other common challenges? I've found a few things help. First, build your village. Find other moms who get it – whether it's online or in person. Sharing these frustrations makes them feel less isolating. Second, set boundaries politely but firmly. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your parenting choices. A simple 'We're doing what works best for us' can go a long way. Third, embrace the chaos and find humor in it; laughter is truly the best medicine. And finally, celebrate every tiny win. That tiny handprint on the card, that first smile, that moment they finally sleep more than two hours – these are the real treasures. Motherhood is a rollercoaster of emotions, and it’s okay to acknowledge the annoying parts alongside the beautiful ones. What other 'icks' have you encountered on your journey through new parenthood?

My baby isn’t born yet, but when people think they know more than you and their opinion is FACT because they raised babies before.
