Okay. Deep breath. This is my biggest embarrassment: my closet. I have an entire room just for clothes, and it’s still bursting at the seams. Things don’t fit. Things don’t have homes. It’s been a constant struggle for years, and I’ve never fully gotten it under control. The truth is simple and uncomfortable: I have too much stuff, and it’s been quietly wrecking my mental health for a long time.

What you don’t see in this video? An additional office room also filled to the brim with accessories and clothes , another closet filled with coats, a hallway stacked with bins of stuff, and about 20 bins already filled with clothes I’ve pulled to sell. That should give you an idea of how bad it really is.

This year, I’m changing my ways. I need to sell at least 50% of my closet, donate a large portion to women’s shelters and my local community, and finally stop living like this. I’ll be sharing my Poshmark journey soon because accountability is part of the process.

There’s a real scarcity mindset in plus-size fashion. When you find something good, you cling to it, because it might never be made again. Add in the return of thinness culture, rising fatphobia, and brands pulling back on extended sizing, and that fear gets louder. So I’ve held onto pieces out of panic, not love.

But here’s what I’m learning: fashion comes and goes. My taste changes. My body changes. And if I can’t find what I want in the future? I’ll make it work. I always do.

This is the year I let go, not just of clothes, but of fear.

Clothes should reflect your current self, not a fear of future scarcity. When I let go of outdated pieces, I discovered a newfound freedom and confidence. Including intentional movement like Pilates in your daily routine can also enhance your mental and physical well-being, which indirectly influences how you feel about your body and wardrobe. For me, combining self-care practices with decluttering created a holistic transformation. Remember, managing your wardrobe isn't about perfection but about creating space to grow, both mentally and physically.
