I’ll always be a girls girl.

I’ve seen people saying “girls girl” is toxic now, and I don’t buy it. I think some people heard women say “I choose women” and immediately got uncomfortable, because women are not supposed to say that part out loud. We’re supposed to be neutral, fair, chill. The kind of woman who doesn’t make other people question the system too much.

And I’m just not interested. Men have been choosing men forever. They protect each other, hire each other, believe each other, forgive each other, excuse each other. They call it loyalty, or just how the world works.

But when women choose women, suddenly everyone wants a dissertation on fairness. I’m not doing that.

Being a girls girl does not mean I think every woman is perfect. It does not mean women are above accountability. It does not mean every woman is safe, kind, honest, or deserving of access to me. Women are human, obviously.

But I’m not going to use that as an excuse to withhold loyalty from women while men have been handed it for doing absolutely nothing but existing.

To me, being a girls girl means I do not bond with men over hating women. I do not make a personality out of being “not like other girls.” I do not quietly enjoy seeing women humiliated because it makes me feel superior. I do not compete for male approval or attention.

I choose women because women have had to earn the benefit of the doubt in a world that hands it to men for free.

I choose women because every meaningful, safe, honest, life-saving kind of love I have known has come from women. I choose women because neutrality has never protected us.

So yes, I’m a girls girl. Loudly. Politically. Personally. On purpose. And if that bothers people, I think that’s worth asking why.

... Read moreFrom my own experience, embracing the identity of a "girls girl" has been an intentional and empowering choice. In a world where male loyalty is often unquestioned and systemic favoritism towards men prevails, choosing to uplift, believe, and prioritize women feels revolutionary. It’s not about denying the flaws or accountability within any group but about recognizing the imbalance in how support and trust are distributed between genders. For years, I've noticed how men often get the benefit of the doubt—whether in professional settings, social situations, or personal relationships—simply because of ingrained societal biases. In contrast, women are frequently held to higher standards, scrutinized more heavily, and expected to maintain "neutrality" even when systems are unfair to them. This double standard can make it hard to openly declare alliances based on gender without accusations of toxicity or unfair bias. However, choosing women doesn’t mean closing doors to men or ignoring individuality; it means actively rejecting the outdated narratives that pit women against each other or require women to seek male approval to validate themselves. It means refusing to compete with women over male attention or to celebrate another woman’s setback for personal gain. Instead, it's about fostering authentic connections rooted in trust, shared struggles, and mutual respect. I've found that this loyalty among women creates a unique kind of safety and support. Whether it’s offering encouragement in ways men may not typically express or standing up for one another against societal challenges, the value of this sisterhood cannot be overstated. It’s a recognition that neutrality isn’t equal when systems are inherently biased—and that choosing to stand together is a radical, necessary act. In embracing being a "girls girl," one also chooses to challenge unfair systems silently maintained by tradition and social expectation. This isn't about excluding men; it’s about reclaiming space and fostering empowerment for women who have historically been marginalized. For anyone questioning this perspective, it’s worth reflecting on why loyalty in men is accepted so readily, while women’s strong bonds are sometimes viewed as threatening. Understanding this helps highlight the broader context of gender dynamics that this choice addresses.
