Just a little look back at some of the breakfasts I had in Jamaica, Summer 2024. Nothing too fancy, just real, filling meals that started the day right. Everything was so fresh, warm, and made with care. Starting the day with meals like this just made everything feel slower, calmer, and honestly more enjoyable. I really just wanna go back to eat some good food honestly😭.

One morning, I savored traditional dishes like Callaloo served alongside garlic bread, and the flavors were earthy and vibrant, showcasing the island’s love for fresh greens and herbs. Another favorite was fried breadfruit paired with Spam and a comforting cup of chocolate tea. The breadfruit’s crispy exterior and soft inside combined perfectly with the salty meat, creating a satisfying balance. I also appreciated the variety in Jamaican breakfast options. Boiled green bananas served with Callaloo and Saltfish offered a hearty and nutritious start to the day, while fried dumplings accompanied by mackerel brought a delightful blend of textures and flavors. Coffee seemed to be a staple, often enjoyed with these meals, complementing the savory tastes with its rich aroma. What struck me most was how these breakfasts were not rushed but prepared and savored with care, allowing me to slow down and fully enjoy the moment. The freshness of each ingredient made each bite memorable—nothing processed or artificial, just authentic island goodness. Including options like saltfish fritters with tea or even crackers and pears for a lighter snack demonstrated the diversity available for breakfast in Jamaica. These traditional breakfasts reflect Jamaica’s rich culinary heritage, combining African, European, and indigenous influences into dishes that are both comforting and nutritious. If you ever visit Jamaica, I highly recommend indulging in these meals to truly appreciate the culture and start your day on a flavorful note. From my experience, mornings here aren’t just about food; they’re about embracing a slower, more mindful pace of life.
