Not a Single Person to Call…No One Drive Me Home

I didn’t expect this to hit me so hard, but it did. I’m 28, and I just found out I need my wisdom teeth removed. The dental surgeon said I’d need someone to drive me home afterward because of the sedation. I froze. I literally had no one to call.

No parents (my mom passed, my dad’s in the hospital). My sister lives abroad. My friends have drifted away. My ex is long gone. I even texted an old best friend, and she just left me on read.

So there I was, having to tell the dentist I had nobody. Not a single person. They wouldn’t let me do the procedure with sedation, so now I’m facing it completely awake.

It’s such a small thing, but it made me realize how truly alone I am right now.

Have you ever had a “small moment” that suddenly showed you how lonely you are? How would you do in those circumstances?

I was in same situation a long time ago. I ended up calling my ex boyfriend and as a decent human being, he did and helped me home and up to bed. I was shocked when I woke up later and he was downstairs watching tv. He gave me instructions nurse told him on meds and told me he would be around that week if I needed help. I was shocked.

A hand holds the book "Deer Creek Drive: A Reckoning of Memory and Murder in the Mississippi Delta" by Beverly Lowry. A yellow sticker on the cover reads "Nonfiction REC". Blurred bookshelves are in the background. The Lemon8 logo and @bookladyreads are at the bottom.

This image illustrates the risk of external drive failure due to physical damage, viruses, or wear. It emphasizes that data loss is permanent if not backed up, urging users to back up their external hard drive to another one to protect their digital life.
This image explains why Windows' built-in 'Backup and Restore' is insufficient for external drives, as it only backs up from the PC and doesn't allow external drives as sources. It highlights that manual copying is slow and cannot be scheduled, posing a problem for automatic backups.
This image presents a solution for backing up external drives. It shows steps to connect two external drives, open backup software, select the current drive as the source and a new drive as the destination, then start the backup process, indicating it's a simple, three-click operation.
