My Daughter Wants Her Ears Pierced… I’m Torn
Lately I keep seeing moms take their super young daughters to Claire’s to get their ears pierced. My daughter—she’s still really little—now keeps begging me to let her do it too because “everyone in her class has sparkly ones.”
But I don’t know… is it too early?? I’m worried about infections, healing, cleaning them properly, or her playing with them and hurting herself. I didn’t get mine pierced until I was older, so I don’t really have a good reference point.
Some people say “it’s harmless,” others say “wait until they’re old enough to care for it.” I just don’t want to rush something that isn’t urgent, but I also don’t want to be that mom who says no to everything.
So I’m curious: what age did you let your kid get their ears pierced? Would you do it again?

As someone who works at Claire’s, the youngest I’ve pierced was 6 weeks old! I will say, if you’re not ready as a parent that’s okay! I always share with the parents it’s not just about the kiddos experience but theirs too! If the kiddo is ready, or expresses interest, I’d educate them just a little bit on what to expect! When I personally pierce a kiddo I walk them through everything that will happen. Such as “okay my friend, I’m going to wipe down your ear to make sure it’s squeaky clean! Then I’ll get my best friend, Mr. Marks, & we’ll work together to put a dot in your ear! Would you like to feel it on your hand first?” I also check up on the parents, I want the experience to be great for everyone involved!
