Hey fitness fam! You asked, and I'm delivering some extra tips to make this chest and shoulder session even more effective and tailored for you. This 'WORKOUT OF THE DAY' is designed to hit those key upper body muscles, and here’s how you can get the most out of it. Why Train Chest and Shoulders Together? Training your chest and shoulders on the same day, as in this routine, is super efficient and can lead to great results. Both muscle groups are often activated in pressing movements, so it makes sense to work them synergistically. This approach saves time, allows for adequate recovery for other muscle groups, and ensures you're building a balanced, strong upper body. Plus, it helps achieve that sculpted look around your décolletage and shoulders that many of us aim for. Making it Truly At-Home & Shoulder-Safe This routine is already fantastic for home workouts since it primarily uses dumbbells. If you don't have a bench for the DB chest press, no worries! You can easily perform floor presses. Lie on your back on the floor, keep your elbows at about a 45-degree angle from your body, and press the dumbbells up. The floor naturally limits your range of motion, which can actually be a great way to ensure shoulder safe chest exercises by preventing overextension. For shoulder safety, remember to always prioritize form over weight. During dumbbell lateral raises and forward raises, keep a slight bend in your elbow and avoid shrugging your shoulders towards your ears. Control the movement both up and down. The warm-up with pull-aparts and band raises is crucial – don't skip it! It activates those smaller stabilizing muscles around your shoulders, preparing them for the heavier work. Targeting the Upper Chest and That Area Between Chest and Shoulder Many of you want to know how to target the upper chest and the connection point between your chest and shoulders. The Arnold press in this routine is brilliant for hitting all three heads of the deltoid (shoulders), while the DB chest press, especially if you slightly incline your body by placing a cushion under your upper back if doing floor press, can emphasize the upper pecs. To really feel that muscle between your chest and shoulder (which is essentially the anterior deltoid and upper pec major), focus on the squeeze at the top of your presses and raises. Visualizing the muscle working can significantly improve activation. Incorporating Resistance Bands for Extra Burn While the warm-up already includes bands, you can also use resistance bands for an extra challenge or as a finisher. For example, after your dumbbell chest presses, you could do resistance band chest flyes. Anchor a band around a sturdy object or a door, hold an end in each hand, and perform flyes. This provides continuous tension and is another excellent shoulder-safe exercise to really isolate the chest. You could also loop a resistance band over your dumbbells during presses for added resistance at the top of the movement. This comprehensive approach not only helps you build strength but also ensures you're working towards a well-rounded and defined upper body, perfectly suitable for women looking to tone and strengthen without excessive bulk. Keep pushing and enjoy your 'WORKOUT OF THE DAY'!
