In many spiritual and metaphysical communities, the idea of monitoring spirits is often promoted as a way to protect oneself or gain insight. However, from personal experience and observation, constantly focusing on negative or 'dirty nasty' spirits can be more damaging than beneficial. It tends to create unnecessary fear and invites undue attention to energies that are better ignored or cleansed rather than monitored. Instead of fixating on these spirits, I’ve found it more effective to focus on strengthening one's own energy and environment. Practices like meditation, energy cleansing with sage or palo santo, and grounding exercises help to build resilience against negative influences. Monitoring spirits can escalate anxiety and may even cause a person to become hyper-aware or obsessed with unseen entities that do not serve any positive purpose. In my own journey, distancing myself from such monitoring and shifting focus to positivity and self-care has resulted in greater peace and mental clarity. Ultimately, it’s important to discern between healthy spiritual curiosity and delusion. Being mindful about the energies you invite into your life, and prioritizing mental and emotional wellbeing, is far more productive than monitoring spirits that only breed fear and confusion.
