Getting a little burnt out on feeling like I can’t look at something without feeling like I’m being sold something
First of all I don’t like being told what to do lol so I’m already pretty hesitant on buying from people’s links and stuff.
But I can’t even enjoy someone talking about their day or this one thing without feeling like this person might be putting on a persona to “sell themselves” or make themselves more interesting.
Like I completely get it!!!!! It’s the online world we’ve built. You need to be “it” for people to take an interest. But sometimes boring is the literal best thing.
I love boring!!! I’m tired of seeing influencers do this or that. I want to see some bs. Like we’re not perfect. Don’t give me a product. Give me you. It’s so hard for me because I’ve caught myself in the same headspace but competing with being myself— I just don’t work like that.
I can’t be myself if I’m amping it up. That wouldn’t really be me? And the sometimes I catch myself wondering what being me is really like. 🤠

Influencer culture has created a space where authenticity frequently feels overshadowed by the need to sell or promote products. As consumers, we crave a sense of realness that often seems lost amidst the noise of carefully crafted narratives meant to captivate audiences and drive sales. The reality is that social media platforms thrive on engagement, often pushing influencers to adopt exaggerated versions of themselves—leading to a disconnect that leaves viewers feeling manipulated and exhausted.
A common sentiment among internet users is the desire for 'boring' content, where everyday life is depicted without the gloss of perfection. This longing reflects a broader societal shift towards valuing genuine experiences over over-the-top productions. Many believe that simplicity and honesty resonate more with audiences than sensationalism. Users seek relatable content, emphasizing the importance of vulnerability in showcasing one’s true self.
Additionally, psychological studies indicate that the pressure to maintain a perfect online presence can lead to significant mental health issues, prompting creators to reconcile their real-life identities with their online personas. The internal conflict often results in anxiety and uncertainty about self-representation. Influencers and regular users alike are increasingly questioning their depiction of self-worth and the influence of societal expectations.
In this context, embracing authenticity over artifice has never been more crucial. By moving away from the need to constantly sell or impress, individuals can foster deeper connections based on mutual understanding and shared experiences, cultivating a digital world where true authenticity prevails. While the digital marketplace will inevitably evolve, the call for genuine interactions remains a steady demand that, if met, could redefine our social landscapes.
I completely understand and that why I'm always myself, and straight up just go to Amazon or a store to see if I can find what I want.
