Can You Guess What’s Inside?

... Read moreHey everyone! So, you've probably seen my latest paper squishy creation, and let me tell you, it's been getting so much love! The biggest question I keep getting is, 'What did you put inside to make it so squishy?!' And trust me, it's NOT just regular stuffing, like I mentioned in my post. I've experimented a lot with paper squishies, and finding that perfect filling is key to getting that satisfying, slow-rising squish we all love. When I first started making these, I tried everything. Crumpled paper? Too stiff and noisy. Cotton balls? They absorb moisture and can get lumpy. Even some types of foam felt too dense. I really wanted something lightweight, bouncy, and sustainable if possible. After a lot of trial and error (and a few squishy fails, believe me!), I discovered a fantastic alternative. For this particular squishy, my secret weapon was actually repurposed plastic bags! Yes, those clean, grocery bags you might otherwise throw away. When cut into thin strips and fluffed up, they create incredible air pockets that give a really satisfying, super squishy feel without adding much weight. It’s also a great way to recycle! But beyond the filling, getting a truly good paper squishy involves a few other tricks. First, the paper itself matters. While any paper works, using slightly thicker paper (like cardstock) for the outer shell can make it more durable. Second, the taping technique is crucial! You want to seal every single edge thoroughly with clear packing tape to prevent air from escaping. This ensures your squishy stays inflated and keeps its shape. I usually do at least two layers of tape around all the seams. Another common question is about design. Don't be afraid to get creative! You can draw directly onto the paper, print out designs, or even use stickers and glitter. I love looking for inspiration online, but sometimes just doodling my own characters is the most fun. Remember, it's all about personal expression. I've even explored other fillings like bubble wrap (gives a fun popping sensation!) or even thin foam sheets cut into small pieces. Each material gives a slightly different 'squish' experience, so don't be afraid to experiment yourself to find your favorite. The important thing is to make sure your filling is clean and dry to prevent any mold or unpleasant surprises inside your creation. Making paper squishies is such a relaxing and rewarding craft. It’s a fantastic way to destress and create something unique. If you want to see exactly how I put everything together, from the design to the taping and especially how I add that special filling, be sure to WATCH THE FULL VIDEO over on my YouTube channel: Time 2 Twin It! Seeing it in action always helps more than just reading about it. Happy squishy making!
