In honor of my Daddy ❤️

In 2021, we lost my dad, the best man I’ve ever known. In 2022, my oldest decided he wanted to play football. When we were standing on line waiting for him to get fitted for his pads and jersey, he casually asked me how old my dad was when he died. My son came running out of there to gleefully tell me that he chose number 52 because that’s the year “PopPop” was born. I burst into tears.. and again the first time I saw 52 run out onto that field.. something about my dad’s birth year displayed on the back of a jersey underneath my new last name. It has been challenging for my son to continue with 52 because a kid a year older chooses it (and gets first pick) so my son is only able to have it every other year. He made the JV football team this year as a freshman, so I went on a hunt to find out what number my dad wore when he played football at Pace University. I was able to find the All Time Football Roster with my dad’s name and number listed and then went down a rabbit hole locating article after article about my dad playing football and baseball throughout high school and then football in college. One of those ads came up on one of my social media pages with athlete jewelry and gear and I decided to get my boys necklaces to honor my dad, their PopPop. My oldest decided to get 52 because that’s the number he wears for him and my youngest went with 3 because that’s the number he wore.
