Just a pinch…
🍂 If It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia: I listened to this on audio and I LOVED! I already put it on my amazon wishlist so I can own it physically and read it next fall.
This was such a perfect 90s fall read. I felt like I was back in my childhood and this vibe is something that I could have experienced if had been an adult. The writing was impeccable, the characters stood on their own, each dynamic was different and tangible, and it all felt realistic for a contemporary romance. I highly recommend this one.
🍂 It’s Different This Time by Joss Richard: I listened to this on audio and I feel like I would have enjoyed this way more if I had read this physically. When reading physically, I am able to cultivate the setting, create the dialogue cadence, and decide the pacing better than if I’m listening to it. An audiobook keeps a steady pace + what I hear is what I get so I feel like I would have enjoyed this way more if I had allowed my brain to fill in the space and soak up the world in a different way. That being said, it was not bad but I felt it was so realistic that I was bored? The FMC irritated me as she just kept getting in her own way. Like she was living in the real world + the MMC was in a contemporary romance so I was just waiting for her to get with the program. The writing was well developed + the atmosphere was incredible, but ultimately this story just wasn’t for me.
🍂 Drawn Together by Juliana Smith: I read this on kindle and enjoyed this so much. This a closed door fall romance, but it stood on its own so well it didn’t need to have sex. The writing was simple for me and the pacing was pretty well done, but the atmosphere that the author cultivated was so dreamy and so cozy that I felt like I was right by the FMC’s side. The characters were so authentic and I loved all the different relationship dynamics. The grief was genuine in that it is something that just is apart of you after death happens and I really admired that it was written this way. I definitely recommend this if you’re still looking for sweet, cutesy fall read.
