What do you actually do during a test drive?
So buying a car is maybe a big decision for a lot of people but we seldom talk about what should one really do when you test drive a car? Do you go to the highway? I’m interested in what people would do when they go test driving.
A test drive is not just about taking a vehicle for a spin; it’s about assessing how well it meets your needs. Begin by familiarizing yourself with the car’s features before driving off. Check the visibility and ergonomics while you’re stationary. Once you are on the road, take different routes: city streets, highways, and even rough roads if possible. This will help you gauge the car’s handling, acceleration, and comfort across different terrains. Pay attention to crucial aspects such as noise levels, braking responsiveness, and visibility. Assess how easily you can enter and exit the vehicle and how comfortable the seating is. After the drive, reflect on your overall impression and don't hesitate to ask the dealer questions about features, warranties, or any concerns that arise from your experience. Each test drive is unique, and gathering comprehensive feedback is key to making an informed choice.
Dealers here don’t leave you more than like a quarter of a tank. So you can’t really go too far. I find the nearest long and empty road so I can test speeds up to 80. Then I like to go through the nearest neighborhood to test more turns and brakes and stuff. When still, I’ll fiddle with the radio and other features.
