Speak up or stay quiet?

I was helping my mom clear out old boxes when I found a stack of paperwork tucked under some photo albums. It was my sister’s adoption papers, stuff like her birth certificate and the adoption finalization forms.

No one’s ever mentioned this to her or to me. My parents act like she’s their biological kid and I’m pretty sure they planned to never tell anyone. Now I’m stuck in this weird spot, it’s not my secret to spill, right? Dropping that bomb could totally shake her sense of who she is. But if I were in her shoes? I’d want to know where I really came from.

If I say something, either to her or my parents, I might mess up our whole family dynamic. But if I keep quiet? I’ll feel guilty forever. Thoughts?

Talk to your parents, they may have a timeline in mind already, or your sister may know. This is the type secret that gets held onto as long as you can but it cant stay forever. At a certain point once youre adults paperwork like a birth certificate is something yall will have to work with. My aunt found out she was adopted at 15 because it was the first time she needed her birth certificate for something (she was getting her driving permit)
