Making my birthday cake at home!!

Turning 22 I’m realizing I haven’t done a lot of things that I could be doing.

Making cake on birthdays wasn’t really a thing when I was a kid but, my partner always makes sure I get what I want. So when I said I wanna make a layered heart cake with a pink aesthetic he said “I’ll make sure you got the supplies”

He let me decorate completely and he just did the hard stuff. (Opening all the stuff, checking it, taking it out and finally leveling it)

All my supplies was under $45. Pan included. (EVERYTHING IS ROUNDED UP)

🎂Cake mix-$4

Icing -$4

🥚 Eggs-$3

Edible flowers -$6

✨ Edible shimmer-$6

Pink food coloring-$5

🩶🖤🤍Silver,black,white and star sprinkles-$5

Heart pan -$11

As I celebrated turning 22, I realized how much joy came from creating a personalized treat, and it's a feeling I want everyone to experience! If you're dreaming of a beautiful, budget-friendly homemade cake with that charming vintage heart cake aesthetic, trust me, it's totally achievable. Choosing Your Cake Base & Layers: My journey started with deciding on the flavors. The images show layers of both red velvet and vanilla, which is a fantastic combination for a heart-shaped cake! Red velvet adds a rich, slightly tangy depth, while vanilla offers a classic sweetness. For a simple cake, using a quality box mix is perfectly fine, just like I did. You can elevate it by adding an extra egg or a splash of milk instead of water for a richer crumb. When baking in a heart pan, make sure to grease and flour it thoroughly to prevent sticking, especially in the intricate corners. Lining the bottom with parchment paper cut to shape is also a lifesaver for easy release. Don't overfill the pan; usually, two-thirds full is ideal to prevent overflow and ensure even baking. Achieving the Perfect Pink Aesthetic & Smooth Icing: The signature pink and white icing is what truly makes this cake pop! To get that dreamy pink hue, start with a tiny drop of pink food coloring and gradually add more until you reach your desired shade. Remember, a little goes a long way. For a smooth finish, crumb coat your cake first. This involves applying a thin layer of icing to seal in any loose crumbs, then chilling it for about 20-30 minutes. After the crumb coat is firm, you can apply your final, thicker layer of icing. Don't worry if it's not absolutely perfect; the decorations will hide minor imperfections, and the homemade touch is part of its charm! Decorating with Edible Flowers & Shimmer: One of the most enchanting elements of an edible flower cake is, of course, the flowers themselves. I used white edible rose-shaped flowers, which added an elegant touch. You can find edible flowers online or at specialty baking stores. Before placing them, make sure they are clean and dry. Gently arrange them on your iced cake, pressing lightly so they adhere. To add that extra sparkle, an edible silver shimmer spray is fantastic! A light mist over the cake and flowers gives a magical, ethereal glow, perfect for that vintage aesthetic. Don’t forget the sprinkles! I combined silver, black, white, and pearl sprinkles to create a playful yet sophisticated border and texture. The number "22" added a personal touch, making it clear it was a birthday celebration. Budget-Friendly Baking Hacks: Making a beautiful cake doesn't have to break the bank. My supplies, including the heart pan, came in under $45! Here are a few ways to keep costs down: opt for store-brand cake mixes and icing, buy eggs in bulk, and look for edible decorations during sales. Sometimes, craft stores have coupons for baking supplies. You can also make your own buttercream if you have basic ingredients on hand, which can be cheaper than pre-made tubs. Remember, the biggest value is the love and effort you put in, which is priceless!
