come along! ( MS appointment)

As my MS treatment was put on hold during last year with my sudden move across the country, I’ve slowly but steadily been working towards feeling stable again. Kesimpta worked wonders for me, and I’m excited to finally take the monthly shot again soon. Also looking forward to trying Memantine— I’m not super familiar with that class of medications, but anything new to try and get migraines out of my life again is a welcome gain.

Getting things back on track feels like a huge step towards regaining stability in my health journey. The team at Cleveland Clinic is always so thorough, and this visit was no exception. During the appointment, they performed a small exam to test my cognitive function and motor skills, which is always important for tracking MS progression. It’s reassuring to have such comprehensive checks. We discussed restarting Kesimpta, which has truly worked wonders for me in the past. I’m incredibly excited to get back on that monthly shot and feel the benefits again. It makes such a difference in managing my symptoms, and honestly, it feels like a lifeline. Beyond Kesimpta, we also explored new avenues for managing a particularly challenging symptom: recurring migraines. These have been a daily struggle lately, especially the vestibular migraines that can be so disorienting. While vestibular migraines are often controllable, mine have been flaring up significantly. My doctor prescribed Memantine, which I learned is typically used for Alzheimer's but has shown effectiveness in migraine prevention. I’m really hopeful about trying something new to get these stubborn migraines under control. We also discussed supplementing with Magnesium, which is another promising approach for migraine relief. Going through these appointments can be draining, but I always appreciate the facilities at Cleveland Clinic. I discovered a healthy and affordable cafe right between the main buildings, offering coffee, tea, crepes, and sandwiches – a perfect spot to grab a bite and decompress after a long appointment. It’s the little things that make these visits a bit more manageable. Navigating chronic illness like MS is a marathon, not a sprint. There are ups and downs, but finding the right treatment plan and a supportive medical team makes all the difference. I’m optimistic about this new phase of my treatment and hopeful that Kesimpta, Memantine, and Magnesium will bring me closer to feeling my best again. If you’re also managing MS or chronic migraines, I hope sharing my experience gives you a bit of insight or encouragement on your own path.
