Paddle Cactus
We have a new friend. She den moved in & now this is her spot. I love that for her
This is my first outdoors plant I am taking care of. Learning as I go. I’m not very fond of cacti. This is warming me up though.
I haven’t named this one. 3 days. Who can give me the best name?
Bringing a paddle cactus into your outdoor space can be a rewarding experience, especially if you are new to taking care of plants. From my personal journey, the paddle cactus has surprisingly grown on me despite my initial hesitation about cacti. One thing I’ve learned is that paddle cacti are quite resilient and require minimal watering, which makes them ideal for beginners. It’s important to place your paddle cactus in a spot that receives plenty of indirect sunlight. Direct, harsh sunlight can sometimes cause the pads to develop sunburn spots, especially when they are newly introduced to your garden. I made sure to observe where the sun hit my plant throughout the day and adjusted its location accordingly. Another tip is to be mindful of watering schedules. Overwatering is a common mistake for newcomers, but paddle cacti thrive in drier conditions. I usually water mine every two to three weeks, ensuring the soil is dry before the next watering. This has helped prevent root rot and kept my cactus healthy. Since cacti can attract certain garden predators like spiders and other insects, monitoring your plant regularly is essential. I’ve become quite observant of the tiny creatures that share the space with my paddle cactus, joining the #SpiderWatch and #GardenPredator conversations has enriched my understanding of the local ecosystem around my plant. Naming your plant can also create a stronger bond. Though I haven’t settled on a name yet, I invite fellow plant lovers to suggest names that reflect the paddle cactus’s unique shape and character. This turns caring for your cactus into a fun and engaging experience that goes beyond just routine maintenance. Overall, embracing the learning curve and connecting with nature through this paddle cactus has been fulfilling. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the simplest green companions can bring new warmth and joy into your life.
