String of Pickles 🥒

This charming succulent, with its trailing growth and unique appearance, really does have a mind of its own, as I often notice it sending out new stems in unexpected directions. One thing I’ve learned is that providing bright, indirect sunlight is key to keeping the String of Pickles healthy and vibrant. In my home, placing it near a north-facing window has worked well, preventing leaf burn while ensuring it gets enough light. However, during the winter months, I occasionally supplement with a grow light to compensate for shorter daylight hours. Watering is another crucial factor. I follow a ‘soak and dry’ approach—watering thoroughly then allowing the soil to dry out completely before watering again. This method helps prevent root rot, which these succulents are prone to if their roots sit in moisture for too long. An interesting thing I've noticed is that my String of Pickles tends to thrive when repotted into a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Adding perlite or pumice improves drainage, reducing the risk of overwatering. As a plant dad, I also enjoy propagating my String of Pickles. Taking stem cuttings and letting them callous over before planting has resulted in successful new plants. It’s a rewarding process that adds to the joy of caring for this unique succulent. Overall, the String of Pickles is a fun and resilient plant that fits well into any succulent collection. With a bit of attention to light, water, and soil needs, it will continue doing its own thing beautifully, bringing life and character to your indoor garden.
