How I Take Flatlay Photos
Hey friends! I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with flat-lay photos lately so I wanted to put together some tips I’ve learned. I love how flat-lays tell a story and make the main subject of your picture shine. I hope this helps! ☺️🫶🏼
Choose a Theme or Story: Decide on a theme or concept for your flat lay. Whether it's related to food, fashion, technology, or any other topic, having a clear theme will guide you.
Choose Your Props and Objects: Select items that complement your theme and vary in size, shape, and texture. Keep in mind the color palette and consider how different elements will interact with each other.
Select a Background: Use a clean, uncluttered background that complements your subject. It could be a plain surface like a table, a textured backdrop, or even a piece of fabric or paper that contrasts well with your objects. I usually clear my desk or clean fuzzy blanket on my bed (:
Plan the Layout: Start by placing the largest or main object first. Then arrange the remaining items around it, considering balance and spacing. Play with angles and overlapping to create depth and interest.
Experiment and Edit: Take multiple shots from different angles and perspectives. Experiment with different arrangements and compositions.
Practice and Patience: Creating an aesthetically pleasing flat lay takes practice. Keep going even if it doesn't turn out perfectly the first time. I am still learning and just having fun with it (: Keep experimenting and refining your skills!
