7 AI Era > AGI: The Evolutionary Path That Will Change the World
Yuval Noah Harari once recounted in Homo Deus that humans are on their way away from Homo Sapiens - creatures driven by their own biology and intelligence - to Homo Deus, or "man who dreams of being a god," who controls life, death and the meaning of the world.
If not genetic evolution, the key to getting us to that point may be "technology," especially AI that is slowly growing like a child learning and entering adulthood - and perhaps even further than we expected.
The 7-era path of AI to AGI
AI is not just "answering questions," it is moving step by step towards AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) or artificial intelligence as intelligent as humans.
Let's take a look at the generational picture:
1.Narrow AI - Good at specialized areas such as language translation, game play, health analysis
2.Multi-Modal AI - Listen, Speak, Look, Image, Understand Many Things at Once
3.Agetic AI - from responsive assistant → to "hands-on" assistant instead of us
4.Self-Improving AI - Learn and develop yourself without relying on humans
5.Proto-AGI - Beginning to have general intelligence. Flexible and applied like a human.
6.AGI - All-round smart. Can do everything a human can intellectually.
7.ASI - If it happens, it is too intelligent for humans to become a new or "God" creature in the digital world.
Where are we today?
We are now standing at a turning point - from Narrow AI → stepping into Multi-Modal AI and starting to see the layout of Agetic AI.
• Narrow AI → is also commonly seen, such as specialized apps (check-ups, language translation, game play)
• Multi-Modal AI → There are already, for example, GPT-5 that "see-listen-speak" at the same time.
• Agetic AI (START) → Start to see AI agents running instead, such as web search, code and run, help manage office tasks
👉 In other words, today we are no longer in the AI Q & A era, but are moving towards the AI era, assistants working instead.
🧭 How should we prepare?
When AI is about to become a human teammate, what should be focused on are these three areas:
1.Use AI to be a real tool
• Not just Q & A, but help with tasks such as summarizing data, making slides, writing code, planning projects
• Think AI = Teammate → Give it repeated tasks to manage instead.
2. Develop skills that AI cannot replace.
• Strategic thinking, creativity, human understanding (empathy), communication
• These skills will make you "work with AI" better than being replaced.
3. Understand ethics and responsibility.
• AI is good at risk, such as bias, privacy, misinformation.
• Anyone who knowingly and responsibly uses will be the person every organization needs.
✨ Finally, AI may just be the "ladder" that takes humans to their dreams in a Homo Deus way - but how high and fast this ladder will be. It depends on how we move from today.
