NEVER GETTING MARRIED REASON 42

Okay, so Reason #42 why I'm embracing the single life and proudly saying 'never getting married' really hit home after my recent high school reunion. You know, that milestone event where everyone catches up, compares lives, and subtly (or not so subtly) judges where you're at? Well, for me, it was a profound moment of clarity. I'd been thinking about whether or not to get married for a while, and seeing everyone again just solidified my stance. My 'Reason 42' is all about preserving my personal freedom and avoiding the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) compromises I've seen friends make within their relationships. Walking into that reunion, I saw former classmates who seemed to have lost a bit of their sparkle, or whose identities felt completely intertwined with their partners. It made me reflect on the notes like 'Thanks to Pat for dropping me off @ my High School reunion! Have fun. Call me if you need me.' – it felt like a reminder of how much of ourselves we often give up or delegate when we are 'GETTING MARRIED'. For me, the thought of sacrificing my independent choices or having to constantly negotiate every little thing just doesn't sit right. The reunion was a whirlwind of 'How's life?' and 'Are you married yet?' questions. And honestly, it made me realize how much societal pressure there is to conform to a certain life path. But as I looked around, I also saw the stress, the unspoken resentments, and even some of the lingering immaturity from high school days still playing out in adult relationships. It made me think, 'Do I really want to sign up for that?' Another big factor contributing to my decision not to get married is the freedom to pursue my passions without guilt. I love my career, my hobbies, and my travel plans, and I don't want to feel like I need to put them on hold or seek approval for them. The idea of waking up every day and making choices purely for my own well-being and happiness, without having to factor in another person's potentially conflicting desires, feels incredibly liberating. It's truly about #selfcare in its purest form. Many people ask me about children or companionship. And yes, companionship is wonderful! But I believe deep, meaningful connections can exist outside the bounds of traditional marriage. As for children, that's a personal journey I'm still exploring, but I don't believe marriage is a prerequisite for a fulfilling family life, however I choose to define it. So, while the world keeps pushing the narrative of 'GETTING MARRIED' as the ultimate goal, my high school reunion simply reinforced my decision to forge my own path. It’s not about being anti-love; it’s about being pro-me. It’s about choosing a life that truly aligns with my values and brings me genuine joy and independence. And if that means staying happily unmarried, then so be it!
