What I want teach my son about love

1/20 Edited to

... Read moreIt's Mother's Day, and while everyone is busy thanking *moms*, I find myself thinking about how much I want to thank *my son*. That special bond between a mother and her boy is truly unique, isn't it? If you're wondering, 'how do I thank my son for Mother's Day?' you're not alone! It's not always about grand gestures, but about truly acknowledging their role in making our lives brighter. For me, a huge part of showing gratitude is the way I try to teach my son what love looks like every single day. I believe that by instilling genuine values, I'm not just raising a good person, but also strengthening our connection, which is a gift in itself. Just like in that beautiful image where a mother embraces her son on a couch, both smiling, I often reflect on these moments. One of the first 'definitions of love' I try to live by with him is choosing with effort. This means being present, setting aside distractions, and actively listening when he talks. It’s my way of showing him that he's important enough for my undivided attention. And when he sees that effort, I think he feels truly valued, which is the best thank you I can offer. Then there's protecting. Not just physically, but emotionally. It's about creating a safe space for him to be himself, to make mistakes, and to know I'm always in his corner. When he knows I'm his safe harbor, it’s a silent 'thank you' for the joy he brings into my life. I always make sure to be his biggest cheering squad. Whether it's a school play, a sports game, or just celebrating a small personal victory, my enthusiastic support tells him I'm proud of who he is and what he achieves. That genuine cheer is another way I express my gratitude for his spirit and effort. And of course, being honest. It's so vital, even when it's tough. Building that foundation of trust means being transparent, admitting when I'm wrong, and talking through things openly. This honesty fosters a deep respect, which is a 'thank you' for the trust he places in me. It's a two-way street, and I cherish his honesty too. Finally, I constantly emphasize never trading kindness for power. It’s about teaching him empathy, compassion, and understanding that true strength lies in how we treat others. By modeling this, I’m thanking him for being a kind soul and hoping he continues to spread that kindness. It reflects back on our relationship too, making it incredibly special. Beyond these daily lessons of love, there are simpler ways to say 'thank you' on Mother's Day. Maybe it's cooking his favorite meal, planning a special outing together, writing him a heartfelt card, or simply spending quality time. Sometimes, just sitting on the couch, like that image, sharing a laugh and a hug, is the most profound 'thank you' a mother can give. It's about celebrating the unique, evolving journey of motherhood with our sons. What are your favorite ways to thank your son?
