Friend’s first time playing rivals

It was so much fun introducing my friend to Marvel Rivals yesterday! He kept asking me, 'Is Marvel Rivals hard to learn?' and I honestly told him it has a bit of a learning curve, but it's incredibly rewarding. When we first jumped in, I was definitely 'showing him the ropes.' He immediately gravitated towards Rocket Raccoon, probably because he just thought Rocket looked cool. I tried to explain his abilities, especially the jetpack and how to use his unique 'rocket' skills effectively for both offense and mobility. It was a bit chaotic at first, as he was trying to get a handle on movement, aiming, understanding objective play, and managing cooldowns all at once. The rapid pace of the game can definitely be overwhelming for a newcomer. One of the biggest questions new players seem to have is, 'Is Marvel Rivals beginner friendly?' From my experience, I'd say it's friendly in the sense that the core gameplay loop is straightforward – pick a hero, use abilities, fight, and secure objectives. However, mastering each hero's unique kit, understanding team compositions, counter-picks, and dynamic map rotations definitely takes time and dedication. My friend struggled quite a bit with knowing when to push and when to retreat, often getting caught out alone or overextending into enemy territory. I remember one hilarious moment where he accidentally got an "S PLAYER KO STREAK!" by pure luck, wiping out a couple of low-health enemies, but then immediately got taken down because he didn't realize he was deep behind enemy lines! For anyone else wondering if it's hard to learn, I'd strongly suggest watching some beginner guides online before diving in, or even better, having a seasoned friend 'show you the ropes' like I did. Start with a hero that has a more straightforward kit and doesn't require precise aim or complex combos. Heroes like Iron Man or Hulk can be good entry points due to their clear offensive capabilities and relative tankiness. If you prefer a supportive role, perhaps a healer with intuitive abilities could be a solid choice to learn the flow of battle without being the primary damage dealer. Don't be afraid to spend some time in the training range; it’s a great place to get a feel for different characters and their abilities without the pressure of a live match. The game does a decent job of explaining the basics through tutorials, but hands-on experience is truly key. The biggest tip I can give a beginner is to focus on one or two heroes initially. Learn their abilities inside and out, understanding their strengths and weaknesses. Pay attention to how your teammates play and try to synergize with them. Communication, even simple pings, can make a huge difference. Most importantly, don't get discouraged by losses – everyone starts somewhere, and Marvel Rivals has a competitive edge that means you'll face skilled players. My friend is already eager for his next match, even after a tough first run. He's slowly getting the hang of it, and seeing him improve is half the fun for me. It's truly a game where practice makes perfect, and with a bit of patience and a willingness to learn, anyone can become a formidable rival in the arena.
