Speaking at conferences to create visibility

Many lawyers think they just need to pay for membership and be searchable from as many directories as possible. To me, that's not enough.

Sure, if you want clients to Google you for personal matters like divorce and property transactions, that might be a good strategy. But what if you want to get corporate and dispute work coming into Singapore?

Sharing knowledge and experience at conferences with lawyers from many other countries is one of my favourite ways, because I also get a chance to learn about their laws and get to know them better.

You never know when a client needs to get a lawyer from another jurisdiction - and you need to know them before the client needs them.

... Read moreSpeaking at overseas conferences is more than just an opportunity to present; it’s a strategic move to build meaningful connections and deepen your understanding of global legal practices. From personal experience, actively engaging as a speaker allows you to showcase your expertise and increases your credibility within the professional community. Conferences provide a platform to meet lawyers from different jurisdictions, which is invaluable when handling cross-border legal issues. By sharing insights and learning about foreign laws, you become a trusted resource not only for your clients but also within your international network. This mutual knowledge exchange strengthens referral relationships and keeps you top of mind when clients require legal assistance beyond Singapore. Moreover, participating in conferences enhances your public speaking skills—a key asset for any lawyer. It cultivates confidence, hones your ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly, and helps you connect more effectively with diverse audiences. In practice, I've found that the visibility created at conferences often leads to invitations to collaborate on cases, contribute to publications, or speak at additional events. Such exposure attracts higher-profile corporate and dispute resolution work, which might not be accessible simply by being listed in directories. Ultimately, investing time in speaking engagements is an investment in your personal brand and professional growth. It expands your horizons, enables you to keep abreast of international legal developments, and enhances your reputation as a thought leader in the legal profession.

Is there a need to drive in Bali Island? 🇮🇩
YES YES YES! But only because i love self driving. We decided to self-drive 🚗 in Bali and rented an older but well-maintained Toyota Yaris, which cost about 350,000 IDR per day 💸. (Pic2) Honestly, you don’t really need to self-drive in Bali — ride-hailing and private drivers are very convenie
