Speaking at conferences to create visibility
Many lawyers think they just need to pay for membership and be searchable from as many directories as possible. To me, that's not enough.
Sure, if you want clients to Google you for personal matters like divorce and property transactions, that might be a good strategy. But what if you want to get corporate and dispute work coming into Singapore?
Sharing knowledge and experience at conferences with lawyers from many other countries is one of my favourite ways, because I also get a chance to learn about their laws and get to know them better.
You never know when a client needs to get a lawyer from another jurisdiction - and you need to know them before the client needs them.
