October 24 "International Gibbons Day"

October 24 each year falls on International Gibbon Day, established by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2015 with the aim of disseminating knowledge and building an understanding of gibbons that are threatened and at risk of extinction.

Gibbons (Gibbons) are the smallest tailless monkeys in the great ape family (Apes), skilled at quickly trampling along branches, eating mainly fruit, and at times also eating insects. Gibbons also have interesting behavior, with gibbons drinking water from using their hands to dip into puddles along the stick and licking them from one hand to another, or they may lick along leaves or branches with water droplets on them. In addition to eating and foraging, gibbons will rest by way of sitting and sleeping freely and safely on a tree top of a big tree.

Most gibbons live in a monogamous society and develop into a family society. Usually a family has an average of about 2-4 gibbons per family and may have as many as 6 members. But today, gibbons face many threats: loss of habitat, deforestation, hunting for pets, and illegal wildlife trade. This is a constant decline in natural gibbon populations. Today is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the conservation of gibbbons to stay with us.
