My calm before the storm

Work weeks are often always hectic and stressful. I'm learning to hold space for the things that I like to do and to take time for myself. Currently, I am reading through the Harry Potter series as it is familiar and an easy way to get back into reading. I hope to post more as I move through these books.

I used to struggle with finding a way to truly switch off, but lately, I've really leaned into creating my own 'pockets of tranquility' – those small, precious moments that bring calm back into my life. For me, that's often meant rediscovering the magic of reading, especially diving back into familiar worlds like Harry Potter. There's something incredibly grounding about losing yourself in a story, isn't there? It’s not just about turning pages; it’s about giving my mind a much-needed break from the constant buzz. When I think about those 'pockets of tranquility,' it’s more than just the act of reading. It’s the whole ritual. Picture this: a quiet evening, maybe after a relaxing 'GRWM Sunday night self-care' routine, snuggled up with a warm blanket and that beloved book. My current 'latest read' is 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,' and revisiting Chapter Nineteen, 'The Hungarian Horntail,' feels like coming home. It’s a wonderful escape. I've found that having a dedicated 'literacy journey' helps me stay consistent. It's not about speed-reading; it's about savoring each chapter and letting my imagination whisk me away to a mystical night scene, far from daily stressors. But what if reading isn't always your go-to, or you're looking for other ways to build these tranquil zones? I've been experimenting with a few things. Sometimes it’s just putting on some calming music and spending five minutes journaling about my day. Other times, it’s making a special cup of tea and simply sitting in silence, watching the 'dark night sky with a bright moon and stars' outside my window before saying 'GOODNIGHT.' The key is to consciously set aside that time, even if it's just 15 minutes, to do something purely for yourself. These small acts add up and really help in managing the overall chaos. I've also realized the importance of the environment. Creating a cozy reading nook, even if it's just a comfy pillow on the sofa, signals to my brain that it's time to slow down. And don't underestimate the power of a physical book – the smell of the pages, the feel of the cover, it all adds to the experience. For anyone feeling overwhelmed by a hectic schedule, I truly recommend finding your own version of these 'pockets of tranquility.' Whether it's a book, a craft, a walk, or just quiet reflection, these moments are essential for recharging and finding your inner peace in a chaotic world. It's about consciously carving out space for calm, one chapter or one quiet moment at a time.
