4 products that cleared my acne-prone skin ✿◡‿◡🌸

Hello~ I’m finally sharing my skincare journey & the products I used to clear my hormonal acne!

First, I want to share what broke my skin barrier back in 2021. Before that, i always had hormonal acne so my skin never had a day without pimples and i felt soooo shit! So i started looking into skin care routines and bought tons of products to try to clear my skin.

Back then, I didn’t know my skin type was “acne-prone”🤦🏻‍♀️ I used toner, essence, serum, moisturiser, cream, etc. (12 steps routine was trending?!). Soon enough, my skin started to have a bunch of tiny spots that look like whiteheads but it’s not that (i still dk what it was). Then, all hell broke loose and a lot of them appeared. That’s when i knew - i fked up & broke my skin barrier T.T I was so scared and wanted to see a dermatologist but ofc, was broke at the time. It got worse so I gave in and followed my mom to see the general doc instead.

He recommended me Differin (adapalene) gel & told me to stop using all other products except a mild face wash & moisturiser.

Adapalene is another story to tell. But please do read up about it before using it. It’s amazing! It has kept my skin clear for YEARS now but the adjustment phase was PAINFUL (the purging - its normal).

Besides that, my whole fam got very worried so they kept feeding me fruits 🙏 and i also drank A LOT of waterrr💦

Fast forward, these are the few products that i use for daily skincare routine. Very basic, but it works wonders~

🌅AM: Cleanse, moisturise, sunscreen

🌃PM: Cleanse, treat, moisturise and then spot treat (if i have acne)

I throw in face mask when I want an extra boost of moisture or just want to relax.

If you’re using too many products, I’d recommend cutting back, especially on highly concentrated ones like benzoyl peroxide 10% (2.5% is enough!).

If you’re breaking out right now, I know how frustrating it is. I wish you a smooth recovery, but even if it takes time, you will get there. I know this might not feel comforting, but acne does not make you ugly :,( ❤️‍🩹.

Focus on drinking lots of water, eating fruits, and exercising. Keep doing it, and one day, you’ll look back and realise your skin has healed before you even noticed.

For those struggling with acne, starting with a simple skincare regimen can help minimize irritation. Cleanser selection is essential; opt for gentle, non-comedogenic products that won't strip the skin's natural barrier. Incorporating active ingredients like Adapalene, found in Differin gel, can be life-changing. It's proven to reduce acne by preventing clogged pores and has anti-inflammatory properties. Users should begin with a lower frequency to allow the skin to acclimate, then adjust as necessary. Remember to pair it with a moisturizer to combat dryness, a common side effect of retinoids. During the day, applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen is vital, especially with retinoid use, to prevent sun sensitivity. Another key element in managing acne is hydration—drinking plenty of water and consuming nutrient-rich foods can significantly impact skin clarity. A diet rich in antioxidants and vitamins can enhance skin's overall health, while regular exercise promotes better circulation and aids in detoxifying the body. Finally, be gentle with your skin. Avoid harsh products and over-exfoliation, which can exacerbate irritation and lead to breakouts. Building confidence on the journey to clear skin is just as important as the products used. Keep your spirits high and remain committed, as clear skin is achievable!

How I saved my skin from fungal acne 🤢
For majority of 2023, my skin was pretty much clear until I changed up and used a LRP cleanser 😮‍💨 It got worse when I thought it was just purging from a retinol, and kept using the retinol. How did I find out it was Fungal Acne & not closed comedomes❓ - I used to have it when I was younger
