Action vs reaction

2025/1/7 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I wanted to share a massive realization that completely shifted my perspective, especially for all you ladies out there. For the longest time, I found myself constantly caught up in how others would react to what I did, or even what I thought about doing. Sound familiar? It's like we're always anticipating the 'reaction to an action,' making us hesitant or anxious. But here's a word of advice: stop worrying about the reaction. I used to believe 'my reaction depends on your action,' and while that's true to some extent in interactions, we often forget the power we hold over our own initial actions. The real game-changer is understanding the profound 'difference between action and reaction' when it comes to our personal agency. We spend so much energy worrying about what others might say or do, when we should really be focusing on 'worry about the initial actions' we choose to take. Think about it. If you're trying something new at work, launching a personal project, or even just setting a boundary in a relationship, the urge to predict how people will respond can be paralyzing. We get stuck in a loop of 'what if?' But what if we just focused on doing what's right for *us*? What if we decided to 'act vs react'? It’s a powerful distinction. When you act from a place of intention and alignment with your values, you're in control. You're proactively shaping your reality. When you *react*, you're letting external forces dictate your next move, often leading to feelings of helplessness or resentment. It’s about choosing to be the driver, not just a passenger in your own life story. This insight hit me hard: 'LADIES STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR OWN ACTIONS REACTION.' The OCR on this post really nails it! We spend so much mental energy on the latter. If we truly embrace this mindset, you'll find 'you won't get the reactions that you get' when you only worry about others. Instead, you'll start getting more favorable outcomes because your actions are coming from a place of strength and purpose, not fear or anticipation of judgment. It’s about taking ownership of your choices and understanding that while 'actions and reactions' are intrinsically linked, your actions are the only part you can truly control. For example, instead of waiting for someone to apologize to feel better (a reaction), you can choose to forgive for your own peace (an action). Or, instead of holding back on a brilliant idea at work because you fear criticism, you present it confidently because you believe in its value. The initial action is yours. The potential reaction is out of your hands, but your proactive step empowers you. This isn't about being oblivious to consequences, but about shifting where your mental energy goes. When you focus on your own initial actions – making them thoughtful, intentional, and aligned with your goals – the reactions you receive, even if not what you initially hoped for, become much easier to navigate. You build resilience, improve your problem-solving skills, and become less dependent on external validation for your self-worth. It’s a liberation! So, if you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed by potential outcomes, remember this advice: 'don't worry about the reaction, worry about the initial actions.' Thank you for letting me share this, I hope it helps someone out there as much as it helped me!
