My Gardens
Recently got into gardening. Very therapeutic and turning out already before blooms beautiful. Have 7 different species of flowers in the front. Wildflowers and succulents in the back. The area that’s under “construction” is where I’m putting 2 raised gardens and will be planting a variety of companion flowers, vegetables, and herbs for homesteading. Just got more flowers to add to back and front. Going to be gorgeous when all bloomed. Very excited. Anyone have any questions on how to do gardening, how to start, or whatever it may be just ask in the comments and I’ll make a post for you. 👍🏻🥰❤️🙌🏻 #gardening #garden #greenthumb #planting #flowers #lifestyle #healthylife #therapy #fightdepression
Since starting my own garden, I've had so many questions from friends asking how to get started, especially about the therapeutic side! It can seem daunting at first, but I promise it's one of the most rewarding hobbies you can pick up. For anyone looking to dip their toes into gardening, my biggest piece of advice is to start small. You don't need a huge plot of land or expensive tools right away. Begin with a few pots on a balcony or a small, sunny corner in your yard. Observe your space throughout the day to see where the sun hits best – sunlight is absolutely key! As for soil, don't overthink it. A good quality potting mix for containers or amending your garden bed with some compost will give your plants a great head start. Some easy plants for beginners include hardy flowers like marigolds, zinnias, or sunflowers. If you're keen on growing edibles, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and herbs like basil, mint, or cilantro are incredibly forgiving and satisfying to harvest. Beyond the beautiful blooms and fresh produce, the true magic of gardening for me has been its therapeutic power. There’s something incredibly calming about stepping outside, getting your hands in the soil, and focusing on nurturing living things. It’s a wonderful way to practice mindfulness; all your worries tend to fade away when you’re absorbed in weeding or watering. I’ve found it immensely helpful for stress relief and just generally boosting my mood. Connecting with nature, feeling the sun, and breathing fresh air does wonders for mental well-being. Even the simple act of watching a seed sprout or a bud unfurl brings such a unique sense of joy and accomplishment. The calming scent of plants like *French Lavender*, for example, can add another layer to this soothing experience. My garden is still a work in progress, but I'm thrilled with my current plant choices. I have a variety of flowers in the front that bring a pop of color, and low-maintenance wildflowers and succulents in the back. My big project right now is setting up two raised garden beds. I'm focusing on companion planting, which is an amazing technique where you grow certain plants together to help each other thrive, deter pests, and even improve flavor. For instance, planting French Marigolds around my vegetable beds can help keep nematodes and other critters away. My ultimate goal is to grow a good portion of my own food – a little step towards homesteading right in my backyard! I'm planning to grow a variety of vegetables like leafy greens, peppers, and heirloom tomatoes, alongside herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and oregano, which are not only great for cooking but also fragrant and beautiful. So, if you've been thinking about starting a garden, don't wait! Every small step, every new plant, is a win. What are you thinking of planting first? I'd love to hear your ideas!
