Black-and-white photo of soldiers marching
I’ve read a lot about WW2, but one fact still gives me chills: during the Battle of Stalingrad, some soldiers were trapped in buildings with no food or water for weeks, literally eating rats and anything they could find just to survive. People talk about strategy and weapons, but the human suffering… it’s horrifying.
Makes you realize how extreme survival can get, and how terrifying war really is beyond the history books.
What’s the scariest WW2 story you’ve come across?

In the book night by elie wiesel, he talks about how when they got them (Jews) out of the ghetto, they told them lies to get them out. They didn’t know where they were going and when they got to Auschwitz, he said he smelled something and it turned out to be a furnace where they were burning women, children, and infants. He also says they’d tossed infants in the air and used them as machine gun targets.
