THINGS YOU *ACTUALLY* NEED FOR NURSING SCHOOL

🩺🍋There’s a lot of products for students on Amazon that are not necessary. You don’t need fancy badge reels, a specific nursing school planner or a “nursing school survival kit”. I think if you want them that’s fine but you don’t *have* to have them.

That’s why I compiled a list of things you must have if you’re a nursing student or preparing to be one!

🩺You’ll definitely need a stethoscope. You’ll be listening to a lot of bowel, lung, heart sounds and taking manual blood pressure. They come in so many fun colors! I have a pink Littmann myself that works well. Brand doesn’t matter as long as you can hear 😆

🎒A good quality backpack is a must. I’m halfway through school and my bag is FALLING APART because of books! Some people in my class have rolling backpacks to save their back which is genius.

🔦✂️Penlight and shears. You’ll be looking in the mouth, ears, nose and whatnot so you’ll definitely need a penlight! As for the scissors you’ll be needing that for wound dressing changes!

🧦👟You’ll be on your feet all day for clinical! You’ll thank yourself later in life when you don’t have vericose veins because I told you to get compression stockings! If you’re a new student, check with your school before purchasing shoes. Some may want you to wear specific colors.

⏱️A second hand watch is going to be needed for counting respirations and heartbeats 🫁🫀

🥤We tell our patients to stay hydrated but we need to be as well! My water bottle goes with me everywhere

🖊️Black ink pens! My teachers will yell at us if we sign our name in any colors 😅

📗Notebooks of course. I reccomend a small, pocket sized one for clinical so you can quickly write down anything.

If I missed anything let me know what you reccomend!

... Read moreStarting nursing school can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially when it comes to preparing the right tools and equipment. You want to ensure you have everything necessary without falling for trendy items that may not serve well in your daily routine. Key essentials include a high-quality stethoscope, which is crucial for listening to heart, lung, and bowel sounds—a necessity for any aspiring nurse. A sturdy backpack is vital due to the heavy textbooks you’ll carry; consider a rolling backpack to ease back strain. Additionally, tools like a penlight and bandage scissors will be indispensable in clinical settings for examinations and wound care. Don’t forget comfortable shoes and compression stockings; these will protect your legs during long clinical hours. Hydration is essential too, so invest in a reusable water bottle to keep you refreshed. Lastly, basic supplies like black ink pens and notebooks are essential for note-taking and assignments required throughout your studies. Knowing your needs in advance can streamline your shopping, ensuring you focus on what truly matters for your nursing path.
