I have artists block

It's tough when you feel that creative well run dry, isn't it? I totally get it. Sometimes, that intense pressure can actually kill the joy that brought us to art in the first place. I used to beat myself up for not drawing, thinking I was a 'bad artist' for losing my stride. But I've learned that self-compassion is key. Your art isn't defined by how often you create, but by the passion you hold for it, even when it's dormant. Don't force it. Instead, try to shift your perspective. Maybe art doesn't have to be a career path right now; maybe it can simply be a source of joy again, without the pressure of perfection or a specific outcome. You mentioned feeling like you're not good enough because you haven't been drawing – remember that every artist, no matter how skilled, has periods where they step away and then return. It's part of the creative journey. What has helped me slowly rediscover my art motivation is to approach it differently. Instead of aiming for a finished piece, sometimes I just doodle without any expectations. Or I try a completely new medium or style, something totally out of my comfort zone, like attempting a quick stylized, abstract figure drawing instead of my usual realism. These small, low-pressure experiments can sometimes spark something unexpected. Listening to music that inspires me, visiting a gallery, or even just looking at other artists' work (without comparing myself!) can help reignite that lost spark. And it's okay to take a break. Sometimes, the best way to overcome artist's block is to step away entirely and allow your mind to rest and recharge. Focus on your other goals – moving out, getting that second job, your education. These are all valid and important steps in your life. The beauty of art is that it will always be there waiting for you, whenever you're ready to pick up that pencil again. Don't let the thought of 'losing that passionate spark' define your relationship with art. It might just be hiding, waiting for the right moment to flare up again when you least expect it.
